Windows 10

That can't be true. If I change my hardware and activate over the phone then it will fail. Windows 8 and 8.1 never once showed that key.

Its a generic Windows 10 key. You don't have your own key anymore.

See The windows 10 FAQ :)

How does the CD keys work Now, Do i need a new Key for a Clean install?

First you should do a normal update first!

When you update to windows 10 it registers a unique ID based on your motherboard with that version of windows. Now when you do a fresh install simply SKIP the Key step. When windows goes online and it realizes your system matches one that is registered it will activate.

Note

If you upgraded to Windows 10 on this PC by taking advantage of the free upgrade offer and successfully activated Windows 10 on this PC in the past, you won't have a Windows 10 product key, and you can skip the product key page by selecting the Skip button. Your PC will activate online automatically so long as the same edition of Windows 10 was successfully activated on this PC by using the free Windows 10 upgrade offer.
Can I perform a clean install, after upgrading to Windows 10, some time in the future (e.g. after the upgrade period)
As long as you upgraded from Windows 7/8/8.1 to 10 within the upgrade period, you can perform a clean install using the ISO provided by Microsoft. If it asks for the key, skip it and it will activate when it first goes online. Windows 10 is activated against the hardware so you don't need a key, as long as you upgraded and previously had a valid copy of W10 installed.
I want to change my motherboard system ext... I originally had a Retail version of windows. Can i move my windows 10?

It is not currently clear what will happen with this. Their is conflicting information on microsofts own site |:

Touch wood, everything has gone pretty damn smoothly for me. Every app seems to work fine, had to reinstall Skype but that was about it, updated nVidia drivers for the 970 and then off went gaming (CS:GO and BF4) and everything is ok.

This was an in-place upgrade, will do a fresh install if I encounter any issues further down the line. Took an acronis backup just incase anyway lol

Or roll back to previous OS and try again at a later date.

The cold boot did not work. From the logs I suspect that it is to do with the install swapping the OS drive numbers in a raid setup. A clean install is not an option at the moment so I've rolled back and will try again at latter date.

Is there a way where you dont need to use your microsoft account to sign in? i dont want to have to use my ms account, i dont use it for anything other than junk mail from an old hotmail account.

Have you tried the latest beta?

Try qbittorrent,no issues on my Win10 with qbittorrent.

qbittorrent is working fine, thank you. Thought the utorrent/bittorrent issue is annoying me now. If i run the .exe file I come against a large white box, close that I can install it but just get the same error message. Is it a compatibility issue as I'm reinstalling it?

I don't use mine. Go to settings/accounts/switch to local account.

Upgraded overnight and everything seems to be working fine with no issues so far. I'll have a play with it for a week or so then do a fresh install if all stays well.

So I got the 80240020 Windows 10 failed to install message in Windows Update about 10 times yesterday.

I tried the advice about deleting the files from the Download folder and running wuauclt.exe /updatenow in CMD as admin. It doesn't look like that has triggered anything, although Windows 10 might just be re downloading now.

Is it just going to be a case of patience and it'll eventually just pop up with the notification telling me it's ready to install?

Upgraded my laptop. Most painless upgrade ever, pretty impressed. Everything better as far as I can see, VS etc all working fine.

Gonna hold off on the workstation until I know all the Oculus stuff is working fine.

Mine isn't activating, but i just noticed i downloaded Single Language, when mine is International English maybe that is why it isn't triggering :/.

Maybe i need to full hog Windows 10 Home.

Same here, probably the activation servers overloaded last night so takes time.

Still no activation for me, and my attempts last night to force the download via using the cmd prompt with wuauclt.exe /update now didn't work either. Guess I either have to wait ( I'm not convinced that it is a waiting game, more a bugged install/notification program ) or use the install tool.
