Windows 10

I would definitly try a reset if I was in your situation. reset is just like a fresh clean install but is slightly more automated. before you do it make sure Windows 10 is activated

EDIT: if you decide to do a reset make sure you disconnect all your other hard drives first. Yes Windows asks you if you want to refresh just the drive that the OS is installed to or other drives as well but I dont trust it! :D

Going to try a refresh first... been about 5 years since I did a fresh install, really reluctant to go through all that again (yes, I know, I know!).

cant you disable onboard audio in the bios?

Disable the realtek codec from BIOS?

As the two posters above you'll need to go into your BIOS and disable on-board sound.

Same thing applies if your mobo has onboard GFX and you use a proper one in the PCI-e slot.

I thought it was, never been an issue in 8.1. I'll check when I'm at home as I'm doing it via remote atm.

Cheers!

Have you backed up all your files? You could take an image of the drive first before trying the upgrade

Yes, thanks.

did it Tuesday (875 Gigs:eek:) on a 2 terabyte passport. My laptop is 750x2 terrabytes (Samsung 700g7a). Restoring takes about 10 hours though as wont read from USB 3 from boot mode, has to be usb 2.

Just thought I'd pop in here ask a quick question - got my windows update yesterday and it successfully activated - has anyone successfully done a clean install after the upgrade? I know that it's meant to work but wanted to double check before I did it :)

Yes it works fine.. Just remember to skip the product key screen.

It should do, on your activation page is there an 'activation' button?

There was no activation button when doing the clean install. However after a few more restarts it just actiavted it's self.

Got myself a nice clean install of Windows 10, no issues whatsoever now.

Right after updating from 8.1 to 10 and then activating 10 I did a RESET and it works fine.

Yeah the UK Cortana voice sounds like a call centre woman, I hate it.

Won't be using her unless they give the option to switch voice.

Cant install 8.1 as my key is for 8 and cant upgrade 8 to 10(from what I could see).

Anyway, trying the iso now. :)

That is strange. My key is also for Windows 8 but I upgraded to 8.1 ages ago and it worked fine on a clean install from a 8.1 ISO I did before a Win10 update. I thought once you upgraded to 8.1 your 8 key becomes a 8.1 key?
