Windows 10

Depends how you measure success and who knows what shape things like the redstone releases and/or anniversary update will bring. It is certainly a long way from a loved OS so far - even those who have embraced it usually have a long long list of complaints including yourself.

I'm certainly not going to base it off clever use of numbers ;) i.e. counting even 1 test PC running 10 in a business as that business converting to Windows 10 as MS were caught doing.
 
Well that depends. If they did the same for 8, 7, Vista etc then the numbers are at least comparable. Do you know that they haven't always done that?
 
So when I posted about 18:38 I shutdown my Windows 10 tablet - over an hour later it is still sitting on a screen saying "Preparing to configure Windows, Don't turn off your computer" lol - I swear Windows 10 goes out of its way to find ways to annoy me.
 
So to be clear, you know there is a fix to allow you to shutdown without installing updates by using an Insider build, yet on your tablet, the machine that you use as an example of why you should be able to shut down without installing updates, you have decided not to impliment this fix, and instead have chosen to come here to post a complaint about it.

Still think your not just trying to find faults?

Not that long ago you were giving me **** for apparently using an insider build to look for complaints - now you are complaining that I should be using an insider build to not run into issues? :P

BTW on the build on the tablet it "should" have those options for shutting down without installing updates I believe but I did not have those options this time or I'd have double checked what it was doing before shutting down.
 
Tbh I question why you run W10 at all. You've made it clear you prefer 7 to 10 on desktops, and 8.1 is considered better for tablets by pretty much everyone. My conclusion is you do it because you enjoy complaining about it, and your comments in seem to support that.

Any normal person who has as many issues with 10 as you wouldnt be touching it with a barge pole.
 
As I said I don't have it anywhere near my main desktop and gaming systems other than in VM form - I like to keep up to date on Windows 10 because as I said I think some of the features if done properly are a decent step forward so I like to keep abreast of changes in case it does end up in a good state and also as I do a bit of IT support stuff I like to be up to date knowledge wise on the OS.

Unfortunately most of the newer (i.e. Cherry Trail or higher end based) tablets come with Windows 10 and with some tablets including the one I have they've not bothered releasing drivers to support some features under Windows 8 as its a new system which ships with 10 out the box so I can't easily shove 8 on either - in hindsight I wouldn't have bought it though I kind of needed another newer tablet as well so don't have a lot of choice.

I have been using 10 for ages now and I really have no issues with it, yes it was annoying the other day a build was installed in the morning and then another went on in the evening when I turned it on from coming home from work.

But I accept this as im on the fast ring of insider, but other than that I really have no issues, one software keeps dumping its login creds when a new build is installed but other than that it all just works, my games work, steam works.
 
Just upgraded to build 14371 on the fast ring. Another complete mess. I can barely see what I am typing at the moment, as it takes about 5 to 10 seconds to show up on scree. Slow is an understatement.

Video playback is also completely borked. Gonna have to roll back again.

What graphics is that on? last few updates are broken with Intel integrated/embedded graphics if you enable some of the optimisations especially conservative morphological (CMAA).

Well.. I just did the powerlimit increase, and selected that profile in afterburner, and everything is back to normal. I reckon I should uninstall and reinstall the graphics drivers. I was surprised when the upgrade did not downgrade the drivers to be honest....

R9 380 is what I use.
 
No, wait.... I just re-checked my drivers and it HAS reverted back to 15.12. After two reboots it had not shown that, but now it is, even after on the first reboot I selected to not do auto driver installs. What the hell microsoft?
 
^^ That setting no longer prevents auto driver installs - not sure if its a bug or intentional (it still has the old functionality for some people who are running an install that has been updated from a much old install and never touched the setting).

Hmm... as I just discovered. Looks like it has reverted to 15.12 AGAIN.

What the hell? lol.

How am I meant to actually have the drivers I want then, without them being overwritten by MS?

This is completely ridiculous now. Forceful updates (downgrades). For certain things it actually breaks functionality and stability, like with some USB devices (network adapters etc, that won't work properly without the correct driver).

MS have a few tools for blocking troublesome updates some of it here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930 and there is another minitool for it somewhere as well.

Unfortunately though these are only temporary solutions and at some random point in the future when another update arrives you may end up back in the same situation until you jump through the hoops all over again (or you might get lucky and a fixed driver exists as the latest by then).
