Windows 10

Doesn't sound like it's anytime soon though. They said hololens will come out within the lifespan of windows 10. Which if going by old builds will be 3 years from launch.

There's loads of uses for it. Imagine seeing room redecoration before spending. Or buying clothes off the internet etc.

Fire up sofa shop, pic sofa and see sofa in your room real size before buying.

I think they meant its free for life if you update in 1st year. Or thats what I took from it anyway I think they just want everyone onto this new version.

My take on it is that everyone on Win7 and 8 get a year trial. Afterwards you buy it. Subscribing will probably be an option after the success of Office365, but I'd rather pay £45 and have it forever like I did with Win7.

Didn sound like that at all, sounded like an upgrade path to those on old systems so most people are running on the system that runs on ALL of their devices.

There's no way they'd make the OS itself subscription-based. What happens if you stop paying or there's a glitch with your subscription, your PC just goes dead?

They're offering it free because they want people to get onto 10 and start using all the other services and products they'll be selling. They'll presumably still make money from 10 via licences for new devices/systems sold anyway.

I hope so, as that would be a bold move to get everyone off their old OSes. I know I'd upgrade quite a few PCs under those terms. It would be one way of MS getting instant access to all those potential "net services" customers.

Oh you mean getting every one access to their online Store.

Not just that, more people on it, then more developer interest. Less news about security risks on older versions. It's just good all round to have a large percentage on the latest version.

Have to wait and see, shame no win10 build now, I thought they would release it at end of conference, still they said within the next week.
Really want to put it on new computer.

And build will be the next bid conference about it then.

Did they say when wp10 or what ever they are calling it preview is coming?

February, but not all the features.

Cortana, isn't that Master Chief's missing AI?

Overall, a pretty good debut, with some very interesting features and apps. Looking forward to the new build update.
