Windows 10

That update got stuck on my main PC at 46%, left it for hours but it didn't budge. Installed the manual update instead and that installed fine.

Maybe someone could tell me this however, can two versions of Windows be installed on a partitioned hard drive? Any possible conflicts? I'll be using 10 for gaming and 7 for general day to day use.

Yup, no problem with that.

Obviously you can't use the same Windows 7 or 8 license you used to upgrade to Windows 10, but you can certainly use two different Windows operating systems on two partitions (or indeed two different drives).

You'd normally install the older operating system first, as on previous Windows builds (I'm talking XP days) an older boot record wouldn't recognise the new one and it would overwrite it. I'd hope that Windows would be more sensible these days, but I've not done it for a long time.

Same as mine. Think it's happened to a lot of people from what I can see.

Resolution... as you say.

Good old Microsoft ;)

So has anyone who has just updated experienced any problems with the update other than the actual install itself?

Yep. Upgraded three PCs now via the Windows Update application from Win7 or Win8. Every one of them developed fatal problems within two or three months that ended up with me performing a fresh install in one case, or just rolling back the update to previous version in the others.

The one PC I did a fresh install of Win10 on has been fine. The others are also fine, albeit running an older OS that now has the easy option of upgrading unavailable.

Having a problem with a fresh installation on a netbook. When I load programs or even just open file explorer, a lot (but not all) of the time I receive a "The stub received bad data" error. I've left it for hours updating, but it just says "Updating..." for as long as I'm prepared to leave it.

Having given up updating, I downloaded the latest standalone cumulative update and when I install it I receive the error "Remote Procedure Call" failed - the service is started and set correctly.

This is my first case of having major problems with Windows 10. All my research tells me it's because of a failed update, to run SFC and DISM to check the integrity of the system files. SFC just hangs at 15% forever.

I think I'll just reinstall Windows from fresh again and see what happens. Now that I think about it, this is the first install I've done with a harddrive - maybe I should be more patient with it before allowing it to check for updates. :(

Worth trying a Windows repair if you have a disk/USB stick I would have thought :)

finally got the Anniversary Update to install, took all day, I just left it and it finally upgraded...

yesterday there was another update, taking it up to .187

now I cant login using the PIN, I have to use the full Password, which is okay for me, but my wife is a technophobe and the PIN made things easier for her!

The PIN is set and there on the system, there's just no option to use it!!

KB3189866?

I had an issue installing this update, and searching around a few others did as well.

It was stuck on 95% download for me even after a few hours.

Had to do "net stop wuauserv" in command prompt with admin access, deleted everything in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and then "net start wuauserv". Restarted the PC then tried running the standalone update again and it worked this time.

I finally installed the SU update via a separate download ISO and it seemed to update fairly quickly and with no initial apparent issues. Aslo got any further updates after that.

I had a CTD with Homefront Revolution but seemed OK after that and I also had a CTD with Forza Apex. I reinstalled the Nvidia drivers 372.54 but have not tried Forza since.

My biggest bugbear is Microsofts Store. If for example I go to Gears of War or Forza Horizon for that matter (The latest unreleased versions or Gears has just now) it says that the apps won't work on my device.

I am accessing the PC versions by the way. But its the fact that it ticks or crosses your system spec in order to either let you buy or not as the case may be.

But it has crosses by X64 in architecture and crosses by video ram and system ram.

Now I know thats ******** because I have an i7 4790K - 16gb RAM, GTX 970.

Surely Microsoft could have written a better detection system in their store app or are they that rubbish in coding. I mean seriously this issue has never arisen with Steam or UBI launcher, etc so why can't an app made by a company that works on their operating system not work correctly.

I think Chad Valley could have done better to be honest.

Any help on this issue would be appreciated.

Something is seriously wrong with my windows install after updating. Even just typing in steam theres a few second delay before the words appear and everything seems sluggish. Never had an issue before.

EDIT: Yeah this is horrible, i'm going to have to roll back to an earlier build if possible as I really cba spending time looking into sorting it out. My pc was working perfectly before updating.

Yeah, I found it had updated to the AE this morning and it's messed up my pc too.

Navigating file explorer is stupidly slow, and updating/installing programs is damn near impossible.

Loads of complaints cropping up - saw on the bbc today about a which article with 1000s of complaints about some of the things I was posting about ages ago - good to see people are finally starting to catch on :S

Rolled back to an earlier build through windows update and it seems to be back to normal. I couldn't even update drivers or install Nvidia geforce experience..

took yonks for me to get the Anniv version the other night, i dunno what it is abot W10 but when it gets updates it chokes off the whole of my internet bandwidth it seems, is it like that for everyone? thought it had locked a couple times, took ages to move from 23% etc but eventually got installed no probs. issues/annoyances:
- had switched back on the Enable Fast Startup that i turned off cos of my issues mentioned on my thread, so turned that off again
- has redesigned some of the Star menu things, don't like it
- told my Word 2000 had been removed as it was incompatible, yet it was working fine before; yet when i looked, Word 2000 was still there and still working fine, as far as i can tell
- it reassigned some of my programs, opening WAVs w/ that damn Groove again, which i neither use nor want.
