Just checked, and the only update i got, was a one for the .NET. (KB4522738).

If this one does eventually come through, i hope its as an Optional, as ive got no problems with the previous update, so i don't need any fixes.

EDIT: Just checked again, and this one is there now, as an Optional, so its a nope from me. :p

Yesterdays update is just a cumulative update not the features update(1909) above, I've had no issues at all with the cumulative as usual :)

Sweet, another chance to break machines again. :D

KB4517211 is released for resolving the issues, not for bringing some new.

  • Addresses an issue that causes vertical fonts to be larger when printing to a PostScript printer.
  • Addresses an issue that causes printing from 32-bit applications to fail with an “Access is denied” error when you select Run as different user for the application.
  • Addresses an issue that may give write access to a removable USB disk when a user switches from a privileged user to an unprivileged user.
  • Addresses an issue that causes the lsass.exe service to stop working, which causes the system to shut down. This occurs when migrating Data Protection API (DPAPI) credentials using dpapimig.exe with the –domain option.
  • Addresses an issue that gives a Windows Hello for Business user two certificates for authentication during certificate renewal instead of one certificate.
  • Addresses an issue that prevents a web browser from connecting securely to Windows Server. This occurs when using a client authentication certificate, such as a SHA512-based certificate, and the web browser does not support a signature algorithm that matches the certificate.
  • Addresses an issue that may cause authentication to fail for certificate-based authentication when the certificate authentication includes a cname as part of the pre-authenticationrequest.
  • Addresses an issue that prevents a Microsoft App-V application from opening and displays a network failure error. This issue occurs under certain circumstances, such as when a system’s battery is low or there is an unexpected power failure.
  • Addresses an issue that causes a query request of the Win32_LogonSession class for the StartTime to display the value of the epoch (for example, 1-1-1601 1:00:00) instead of the actual logon time. This occurs when a user who isn’t an administrator creates the query request.
  • Addresses an issue that causes File Explorer to show a regular file icon for files marked with FILE_ATTRIBUTE_OFFLINE instead of the expected placeholder icon.
  • Addresses an issue with intermittent virtual private network (VPN) disconnections on cellular networks.
  • Addresses an issue that may cause audio playback and recording to fail when connecting to a remote virtual machine.
  • Addresses an issue with MSCTF.dll that causes an application to stop working.
  • Addresses an issue with the input and display of special characters that occurs when an app uses imm32.dll.
  • Addresses an issue with resizing Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) applications; they may not respond to being resized using the mouse until you release the mouse button.
  • Addresses an issue that may prevent older systems from upgrading to the latest operating systems because of an error in the display driver of older versions.
  • Addresses an issue that may cause the screen color to turn white on laptops that have built-in, high-dynamic-range (HDR) screens.
  • Addresses an issue with converting an application from 32-bit to 64-bit architecture.
  • Addresses an issue that prevents you from running the Active Directory Diagnostics Data Collector Set from the Performance Monitor for Domain Controllers. This causes the Data Collector Set name to appear empty. Running the Active Directory Diagnostics Data Collector Set returns the error, “The system cannot find the file specified.” Event ID 1023 is logged with the source as Perflib and the following messages:
    • “Windows cannot load the extensible counter DLL “C:\Windows\system32\ntdsperf.dll.”
    • “The specified module could not be found.”
  • Addresses an issue that causes audio in certain games to be quieter or different than expected.
  • Addresses an issue that prevents Microsoft App-V from handling a parameter of the CreateProcess API properly, which prevents the virtual process from opening.
  • Addresses an issue in which the maximum central processing unit (CPU) performance is not enabled when you select the High Performance power plan.
  • Provides a way to configure the read buffer size. This allows you to address an issue with slow upload times when uploading a file to a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) share using the Internet Information Services (IIS) Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) feature.
  • Addresses an issue that causes a device to stop working when opening files from a network drive that has client-side caching enabled. This issue may occur when the device has certain third-party antivirus products installed and the drive is backed by a server that is not a Microsoft Server Message Block (SMB) server. The error code is, “0x27 RDR_FILE_SYSTEM.”
  • Facilitates the configuration of devices that are managed by mobile device management (MDM) settings, which are created by ADMX ingestion. You can update a previously ingested ADMX file with a newer version, and you are not required to delete the previous ADMX file. This solution applies to all applications that use ADMX ingestion.

I have just done a clean reinstall of windows 10 pro (using the july 2019 install from ms site) on my main desktop, and everything went well, no probs at all. It was the same as installing win7, but with more options/settings to go through.

Windows 10 19H2 to Boost Performance via Favored CPU Core Optimization
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/ne...erformance-via-favored-cpu-core-optimization/

Windows 10 19H2 will include optimizations to how instructions are processed by the CPU in order to increase the performance and reliability of the operating system and its applications.

When a CPU is manufactured, not all of the cores are created equal. Some of the cores may have slightly different voltage and power characteristics that could allow them to get a "boost" in performance. These cores are called "favored cores" as they can offer better performance then the other cores on the die.

With Intel Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0, an operating system will use information stored in the CPU to identify which cores are the fastest and then push more of the CPU intensive tasks to those cores. According to Intel, this technology "delivers more than 15% better single-threaded performance".

ahh so Intel saying, some of our brand new forthcoming chips, have been made in a way that some cores are 15% crapper than others, but it won't matter overall, as windows will be able to boost the right one.
Good good.

Report: Microsoft makes it difficult to create local accounts in Windows 10

Windows admins have options to create local or Microsoft Accounts when it comes to the operating system. The initial setup after installation pushes the Microsoft Account option but it was possible up until now to create to a local account instead. Microsoft has made it more and more difficult to create local accounts during initial setup and discouraged users to do so.

A report on Reddit suggests that Microsoft has made it more difficult to create local accounts during first run. The user reported that no option to create a local user account was presented during first run on the system Windows 10 was set up on.

The user revealed that he used the Download Tool and that the option to use an offline account was not available on the login screen. Offline account refers to the local account that Windows administrators may create.

Sly stunts like these really don't do Microsoft any favours. Will they ever learn?

No - the people in strategic development positions clearly have an extremely narrow minded perspective of the world and at best that takes many years of experience to broaden and often those kind of people are too resistant to adapting and filter what they take onboard to only what reinforces what they believe to a higher than normal level.

Why is this news and a form of hysteria?

One of the easiest options to overcome the limitation is to cut off the Internet connection during setup. The creation of a Microsoft Account requires an active Internet connection and if Windows 10 recognizes that there is none, it will automatically switch to the creation of a local account as it is the only possible option to complete setup at that point in time.

I remember doing this with Windows 8.

Heh!

I thought you are better than this.
If someone on reddit can’t find their ass with both hands and a radar, it’s not a Microsoft’s fault. The option to create a local account is still there, you just have to search for it. Yes, Microsoft made this option more difficult to find and it’s a d*** move but they didn’t remove it. At least not yet.

Ultimately not sure why people are defending measures that make it harder for the end user in a product that is supposed by its nature to enable the end user! (personally I'm quite happy to use my live ID as an account and don't bother with a local user on Windows 10).

Annoyed almost, but certainly not hysterical. The point is, you shouldn't have to do anything to circumvent the installer's inabilities.

I've not come across this scenario where you can't create a local account, or it is more cumbersome to find. But so far, the "use offline account" option has always been easy to find. So why should it change and become more of a chore to find?

I need a windows 10 home key after a clean install on a new build and i know there are places that sell keys. I've used them for games before and it seems ok to discuss such sites here in relation to games.

Wanted to ask about a particular site to buy from and whether other people had used it but, before i do, just wanted to makes sure it was ok to ask that question here.

Thanks

installed windows 10 this morning (home edition) and i had that - no option to create a local account (looks like you can change to a local account after you install?) but no local account option in setup. They also ask you a bunch of 'intrusive' questions during setup - can we share this info or that info etc. I'm not interested in that - all i want to do is setup and use an OS, not share info with microsoft. Not happy with all the questions during installation.

Which version of Windows were you installing and the build if you know it? Ie: Windows 10 Home 32-bit, 1903 Build 18363.387.

I've just used the MediaCreationTool1903 to create a 64-bit ISO which has the Home edition and installed in a virtual machine. I do see what you mean now and there seems to be no way round it at all on this screen:
M22D2t2.png

If you install either with your network cable unplugged or without connecting to a wireless network, it will let you make an offline account.

Or if you reach the page above, just disconnect your network connection and press the back button at the top left and it will also let you make an offline account.

I haven't seen this is in other versions of Windows I've tested, so maybe it's just a Home edition thing? But either way, I don't think trying to force people to use a Microsoft account is going to go down awfully well with some people.

I've just installed Windows Pro from the same ISO image used in my previous post and the option to create an offline account is there on the bottom left.

So it looks as though Windows 10 Home users are being strongly encouraged to used a Microsoft account rather than a local account.
