Windows 10

So I took the plunge for the 20H2 update over the weekend. It wasn't showing in Windows Update but used the upgrade assistant. On day 3 now and it seems to have been fine. Even with the Creative Audigy 2 ZS with its drivers released in 2018.

20H2 has finally shown up for me, so will install later.

Another icons appeared on the Settings Bar now too, Rewards.

The laptop is giving me problems. The update assistant is hanging at 99% for crazy hours. It was after 6 hours I pulled it.

Since 20H2 I'm having issues on a HP laptop with RPC Server not listening or available and being prompted that I have new credentials I can enroll within HP Client Security since there's been a recent Bios update that added some extra sign in functionality. Not entirely sure who's made the mistake at the moment, MS or HP since updates occurred from both around the same time. Done some digging and rather oddly it seems somewhere in MS wisdom that the sign in is somehow piggy backed off of Remote Connection feature set even if you're using the machine directly.

Just installed it, took about a minute, thought it hadn't gone on, as after the restart, and it did the configuring updates, it only got to 56%, before my desktop loaded, so checked the winver, and yup, it did go on, says 20H2 19042.630. :D

Probably MS - they want everybody to sign in with a Microsoft account?

Yep but when looking into a fix it suggests you have to have things like Remote Assistance authorised / enabled through Windows Firewall for local and public networks which seemed rather odd to me for a function such as logging in locally. Dogs dinner of an approach springs to mind.

It would appear the laptop issue may have been related to Norton hanging it at 99%. Once I disabled it and ran the installer from $GetCurrent, it completed within 35 - 45 minutes. With the Conexant sound drivers.

I have no idea what is going on with my tablet - it decided to try 2004 again out the blue, failed, reverted, then started downloading 1909 updates but throwing up a error about the files being missing or damaged and it would retry later, then I restarted it - it sat on the shutdown screen for applying updates for about 10 minutes even though there weren't supposed to be any [successful] updates to apply - and now it is downloading the 2020H2 updates.

Just doing a virus scan, and found adware/elex.gen.

Don't know where its come from, as not downloaded anything, apart from some files for some steam games, and i only scanned the other day, and was all clear.

Right, odd one this, just done another scan, and found this again, only time ive found it again, since the above post on it, and ive scanned umpteen times since then.

Thinking its a false positive, as checked on it in the Quarantine (which i should have done the first time tbh :p), and its being found in my Metro LL Redux folder, and its found as the oaremote.dll plugin, now ive looked through the other Metro games ive got folders, and the oaremote.dll, is found in some of those too, and been there since 2012 etc..., so don't know what it is, as when ive scanned those oaremote.dlls, they come back fine

When looking up the adware/elex.gen (which is what Avira is reporting it as) though on Google, malwarebytes has this on it :-

https://blog.malwarebytes.com/detections/adware-elex/

Ive never seen any ads, or anything untoward, and ive quarantined it again now, so the oaremote.dll plugins, no longer in the Metro LL Redux folder.

Weird.

EDIT: I have been on a website, that ive not been on for ages (last time was before i got it the first time), so wonder if it could be coming from that, and disguising itself as that oaremote.dll in the Metro LL folder, then again, it shouldn't be getting through.

EDIT: Just rechecked them again, and the first one of it that got found, was in the Metro 2033 Redux folder, this find today, was in the Metro Last Light Redux folder, so im wondering if they are false positives, as ive rechecked the 2033 Redux folder, and the oaremote isn't back there.

Its odd, as ive still got the oaremote.dll, in the non Redux versions of 2033 and Last Light (which have scanned fine), and they've been there since 2012/2013 those ones. :p

Wonder if they are false positives, just thrown up by the new virus definition updates (it updates every hr or so), then again, why would both not be picked up together the first time one was found, or all 4x, as ive still got 2 oaremote.dlls left, and oddly, Metro Exodus, doesn't have an oaremote.dll :p

Why would adware virus be coming from the net, and be going into those game folders anyway wth :D

Suppose i could go into Steam, and verify both games files, as they should re-download, and i could check em again.

You never do - neither do I with installing them unlike others lol but bear in mind I still have a FM2+ black edition x4 cpu. :D

I'll get it anyway on Patch Tuesday next week, when it automatically comes through, along with the Security Updates. :p
