Windows 10

Yep got KB5003214 too but I leave them optional ones until they come through as standard ones so less chance of being caught out by them.

On one PC I couldn't get rid of the "restart to update" (on power button) notice when I updated to 21H1 via Windows update; and would "hang" on search for updates.

Had to uninstall 21H1 in the end and reinstall fully with the update assistant. Boring !!

Shagged for me too, went into Windows update after the restart to check it had gone in ok, and it was checking for updates, with please wait.... there, and it was there for a while, so i closed it, went back into the settings a bit later to recheck, and along the top where the update icon is, its saying attention needed underneath it, so i went back into the update and security, and its just a blank window, with the Windows Update writing at the top left, and the Blue balls endlessly going along the top, may try another restart.

EDIT: Just checked Winver, and it says its on, 21H1, Version 19043.985

^ I've had exactly the same problem on one out of two machines. None of the usual tricks to clear the update cache worked, so restored back to last night's Macrium image and will try again another time.

Scrap that, i just went back into it before i did another restart, and it sorted itself, the checking finally stopped, the contents of the Window all showed up, and the Green tick, You're Up To Date, thank **** for that! :D

Checked the Update History, says its Successfully Installed.

Thought i was going to need that newly created image, that id just created before installing it there for a sec :p

EDIT: Just noticed, it says Last Checked: Today, 10:45.

I'll see what happens tomorrow.

Slight brown trousers moment just now. I checked for updates and KB5003256 (Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10, version 1909) installed automatically. I was then prompted to restart, so did and when Windows showed my name while logging in, it just blue screened on me.:(

Thankfully system restore saved my bacon, but I'm definitely creating another restore point and image before trying once more.

After creating a restore point and Macrium image, I installed the above update through Windows Update again. This time everything went fine.

Feeling brave, I decided to also install the latest Cumulative Update preview, KB5003212, which also installed fine - albeit slowly.

Alls good today, soon as id switched on, it auto checked for updates, and popped up with that big optional cumulative bug fix one, which im just leaving for now, and i realised later last night, that the last check was at 10:45, as thats when it auto checked in the morning, and 21H1 popped up, so what ever it was doing last night, with the endless going of the Blue balls, it wasn't checking for updates. :p

Was odd, as i even went into the TM, to see if could see the process that was running, to try a kill of it, but nothing was there for it, and even in the Performance tab, all was normal, no drives going, CPU idling as normal etc...

All 5 family PCs updated with all updates now - only had the "shutdown to update" and "restart to update" issue with one (see above 14003).

Anyone else have problems with the Windows Store? It seems like a piece of garbage, hangs all the time, apps dont install/update etc. I'm trying to install Dolby Atmos and it's not having any of it.

Even trying to reset it hangs.

Well 21H1 feels more or less like like 20H1 and 20H2 to me, mostly because it is. No issues spotted so far.

I chose to do a clean install of 21H1 onmy laptop, after customising the image to my needs and satisfaction with MSMG ToolKit. Now 21H1 is better still without that bloat.

Time to consider a test run on my main machine (this) next. Gulp.

I uninstalled 20H1 after MS installed a weather app I could not get rid of.

No matter what I tried, it was always showing on my task bar.

You can right click anywhere on the taskbar and select News & Interests > Turn Off. How dare these baskets make life so difficult... :p

You assume they didn't try that - I can untick the option to show the Windows Welcome screen but it will still pop up again at random whenever it feels like, etc.
