Windows 10

Does anyone know if the windows 10 upgrade will convert my 7 retail licence into a win 10 device only licence?

it doesn't convert your retail licence into a device only licence.

from the information we've got so far. it seems once upgraded then win10 will be only for that device, your previous license is untouched meaning you can reinstall at any time win7 and it'll still be retail. so if you upgrade your hardware within the year you could upgrade to win10 again for free.. by reinstalling win 7, activating it then upgrade to win10

but MS still needs to give us detailed information on this

No, it won't work. U have to purchase retail or oem key. MS told me once you get free upgrade to Windows 10 Pro from Windows 7 Pro is a one off. You cannot reinstalled again or put onto a clean installation. There is no key offer from MS for upgrade to 10 from 7.

That makes no sense: how would you reinstall Windows on the same box?

I did asked that to MS, they say you have to back up your OS within Windows backup / restore. They also repeating, there will be no product key available for free upgrade.

wrong.

ms as already said there will be a downloadable installation media , so when u reinstall via that it'll automatically activate via your hardware ID. it won't ask for a key

During reinstall, it will ask u to enter your product key (there is no skip to this) and how on earth will you know your product key?

It will be your 7 key, if it asks at all. Or maybe a placeholder key like 8.1.

We haven't got final media so we don't know if it will let you skip or not.

Microsoft have confirmed you can clean install 10 after upgrading.

I've given up trying to talk to Rroff. He isn't just someone who doesn't like the look of the new start menu, he is so aragant that he's genuinely decided he could do a better job. Yet hes forgotten that the user base is quite a bit bigger than just him.

Your going to struggle to have a meaningful conversation with someone who thinks they are better than Microsoft because they once changed some colours and icons on a Linux machine...

If you want a meaningful conversation your not going to get far ****ging off my experience with "because they once changed some colours and icons on a Linux machine" which is far short of the experience I've mentioned - I'm fully capable of and have done so of coding a working UI from scratch including all the code for creating, handling and rendering windows and controls.

I don't think I'm better than MS but I do definitely think I could do a higher quality of work than than some individuals at MS are demonstrating definitely - while a little rusty on windows development these days I'd be quite happy to put my money where my mouth is if anyone here works for MS.

I think you might make more money working for the likes of Stardock.

if your going by the windows TP media then even that don't ask for a key. the win10 rtm installation media will be different, you'll have to download the right media either home or pro. and there will be a skip bottom, going by the person from MS, posted on the MS forum

a person from MS, posted on the MS forum in one of the threads saying you have to click skip. then once installed it checks the activation server to see if your hardware ID is in the database, if it is then it activates automatically.. hence why they say you can reinstall w10 on the same device...

the enter a key box is for if you've bought a w10 full license (retail or oem)

I think that fact that you don't work for Microsoft says all it needs to. Surely they would have snapped you up if you were the gods gift to UI development you seem to think you are.

If that so, then instead of moaning about it, why don't you make yourself a UI for win10 and if you think it's that good then send it to MS or sell it or just use it for yourself

Ah if only life worked that black and white... if only.

(Besides I've worked twice in programming roles and I don't enjoy it as a job - while I understand the reason for why the procedures are what they are - none the least to ensure progress - there isn't much room these days for people who practically live and breath programming when working on a project - if you've got something going around in your head and that section of code has been committed often all you can do is submit the idea/issue/bug to the tracker and hope it gets revisited at some point which just isn't the same).

I'm quite happy with my 7 setup - to be as happy with 10 let alone improve on what I have now would go way beyond just creating a replacement for the start system and I don't have the time for that these days between work and my current electronics hobby.

Ah, so you could do it, but its beneith you to actually try.

Oh by the way, have I mentioned I'm a better driver than Schumacher, but I'm too busy painting my kitchen to prove it. It's definitely true though, I've got loads of years experience with cars.

Thinking about installing Windows 10 Insider 10130 on my main desktop for everyday use, good idea ?

Anyone else using 10130 for everyday stuff ?

Anything I should be aware of ?

Thanks
