Windows 10

You'll have a massive windows.old folder if you sure you have all files you need and don't want to roll back run disc clean up to remove it,

It's "overly" sharey by default because it needs to be. How else can Cortana work, how can settings and files be uploaded to one drive etc.
At the point you enable Cortana it should ask for your permission for each item. Not be enabled by default regardless.

Thanks, i couldn't find a way. It looks like there was in the preview builds as i found something on google about it, but i don't have the options in the release version.
You can pin some folders to the left hand side, but that is it as far as I can find.

Settings > Personalisation > Start > Choose which folders appear on Start

Also, I thought this was supposed to be a smaller install than W7. I started out before upgrade with 611GB free, after it's sitting at 590GB.

ive had a 32 bit at 10gb and my 64bit is about 15gb clean installs

upgrades seemed to use about 20gb (64bit windows 7 > 10)

where's the notepad?

I don't have it when I click on the search the web and windows menu?

Try pressing the start (windows button) and typing notepad it is their :)

But if still no luck its in "C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories" The shortcut called notepad which links to "C:\WINDOWS\system32\notepad.exe" Maybe create a shortcut in that appdata folder linking to the notepad exe :)

Took the plunge earlier tonight and forced the update, took less than 30min and I've had 0 issues with it so far.

You have OneNote now as an app for reading/writing documents. It should be visible in the tiles on the right side of the start menu. Alternatively download
Word Mobile which is a free app for Win 10 ( can get it via the store along with Powerpoint Mobile and Excel Mobile ).

edit* notepad exists on my install too

It's probably already been asked and answered, a search of this thread brought nothing up, but how to you enable transparency for the taskbar and the like? At the moment mine is just a solid black bar.

The same for Firefox too, it used to have a transparent top bar but now it's just a lump of solid white and looks like ****.
