Windows 10

Sigh in the middle of doing something on one of my unfortunately Windows 10 tablets and this modal dialog pops up over everything I'm doing, ignoring all settings and activity:

Why MS why are you so utterly inept and stupid.

EDIT: And now everything is super slow because Windows update is sitting in the background using 70+% CPU and Disc IO :s so utterly stupid implementation on a mobile device where you need all the performance you can get.

I hate this way in technology now. Same with god damn Razer. Anytime you update anything installers download the latest version. Everything is forced.

Formated before, windows updating as normal, creators update happens at same time, go through everything and restart, windows install bricked, have to start all over again :'(

Neither of my Windows 10 tablets are working right since the creator's update :( not sure if its something that will sort itself out after a few hours/days or going to require a reinstall - lots of stuff is slow and things don't respond/complete properly i.e. Spotify update just sits there with the bar going back and forth for over an hour before suddenly completing while the same Spotify update takes seconds on my other 8 and 7 systems. Seems to be quite a lot of background activity from OS components (already disabled game mode stuff in case it was related to that).

Hah - lent my brother my projector so he could practise for a presentation he has to give - while getting it setup his Surface which hadn't been used for a bit launched into the creators update - better then than while he was in the middle of it for real but meant he lost a lot of time to get everything tested :s

My brother purchased a very nice new Asus netbook over the weekend with Win10, I installed all the latest updates and there was a lot (a few hours worth), anyway all went smooth and no issues, she is very happy with Win10 and prefers it over her old Win7 netbook.

I almost wish there was a new Win11 since Win10 is a bit boring now ie stable and just works lol.... I never seem to get issues with any OS and believe me have tried and used them all since Dos days :) , I guess I'll play with a new Linux distro :) .

:)

since Win10 is a bit boring now

Windows 10 has been boring from the start - none of the issues are at all interesting in trying to solve largely being down to MS incompetence often should have been easily avoidable with proper testing and/or actually listening to feedback the first time around, the UI looks flat and monotonous and mostly ugly (though as always taste in looks are subject to the individual) the only thing that could have been decently innovative is the start menu implementation but they've mostly just held it back from its true potential.

I kind of wish they'd start on Windows 11 just because there is a chance we'd have something that iterates on what was good with Windows 7 and leaves this sorry episode behind.

To be fair all the Windows Operating Systems are boring (made to be easy and simple to use and awesome for gaming which is my main use), it only gets a little interesting when you start playing with some of the Linux distros out there.

I remember when Win95 was new but then did not take me long for that to become boring, sames goes for XP,Vista,7,8 etc....

I cannot see there being a Windows 11. It is obvious it is going to be a version that Windows keeps evolving via subscription based.

The only reason I use Windows at home is gaming and to pass through DTS HD to my amp using Plex since I can't find any Linux distro that will.

LOL had a dos box flash up on my main Windows 10 tablet today when starting up ever since things have gone back to "normal" (no more slow installations since creator's update, etc.) except now explorer likes to freeze up a lot - noticing it was pretty low on disc space since the update I decided to do disk cleanup and remove old windows installation files - mid-way through doing so Windows helpfully pops up a notification that I'm low on disc space and it can be alleviated by deleting old files from a previous installation :s also as it was suggesting it could free up 24GB out of the 26.5GB used I was kind of suspicious... surprise it has hosed the installation. MS never cease to disappoint.

EDIT: Quick fiddle with recovery and its working again with 15GB freed up instead of 24GB heh.

EDIT2: Seems to be working properly now post doing recovery so at least that is something :s
