Windows 7 Impressions

Has anyone messed around with Device Stage yet?

Looks quite nice (but I don't think it supports many devices at the moment)

Got it working in a 512Mb VBox machine and to be honest its still faster than my XP instll I am using!

Performs faster than the old Vista install I had as well.

Found all hardware fine as well which was nice.

Does anyone know if this beta build expires at all - wouldn't mind giving it a good beating as my main OS but if it expires I might as well carry on in the VM.

Seems just like Vista with a few changes

Seems faster and with a few changes.
Regarding drivers.............
I installed Nvidia Vista 64bit graphics card drivers without a problem.
I also installed Nvidia Vista 64bit motherboard drivers but Windows 7 ignored them and reverted back to the built in Windows 7 Nvidia drivers.
I installed Creative X-Fi vista 64bit drivers without a problem.
Verdict(so far).....no problems as yet other than ignoring the Nvidia drivers.

I've added a few devices: Wireless Mice, Phones, GPS, that sort of thing.

Two problems I've found; the GPS I have (TomTom Wireless GPS MKII) doesn't show-up in the sensors section, and the fingerprint reader doesn't show in the biometrics devices.

Did you install it via USB?

Anyone done that yet? =)

Edit: Lots of guides online!

yep installed via USB. I had to use win rar to rip the contents of the ISO. I then had to format my 4gb USB stick to FAT32. I just stuck it in then booted from USB and voila 20 mins later I was browsing the internet.

Just checking..
do people here use the Send Feedback (which is at the top right of most things
to send errors back to MS?

or is there a better way?

I usually research the problem first, to give Microsoft a better idea exactly what I was trying to do before sending. And yes, I use the 'Send Feedback' item in Start Menu (I've removed the one on the titlebar)

anyone esle had problems with SlySoft Virtual CloneDrive, installed it this morning and immediately getting tdx.sys bsod and other services crashing, was fine before i installed it.

I am actually impressed so far. We have vista on the laptop, but I hardly ever use that.

My XP installation has been solid, so I never bothered going to Vista. I will go to Windows 7 though. I really like it. Like any new OS, people get frustrated when things are in different places.

I set it up with a dual boot configuration to run alongside my XP. It was the quickest windows install I have ever done. Up and running very quickly.

Early observations/problems.

1. Did not detect/Install my Xfi Extreme Music.
Solution - Download 64 bit Vista drivers from Creative. Run in Vista compatability mode.

2. Did not detect/install the SM Bus on my P5Ke/Wifi AP
Solution - Download chipset drivers from Asus. Again, must be run in compatabilty mode. (Vista)

3. Did not detect/install my Canon N650u scanner.
Solution - Throw it away, as vista drivers were never released :D

Just a suggestion, but perhaps we could have a list of problems/fixes somewhere. I would imagine some of the issues would be quite common amongst us.

Installed Windows 7 64 bit on Nvidia KN9 Ultra based computer.
Windows 7 has built in Nvidia graphics card and networking drivers and I did not have try installing any.

Asrock NF7G Full HD 3.0 here, cannot for the life of me fix this error short of getting a new nic card, rather not as the onboard one works fine in xp pro. :(

Anyone know how to get the Dell Quickset OSD to work? It displays when I change the brightness but does not when changing volume (using the touch media buttons on my M1330 notebook)?
