Windows 8 Adoption Poor

What baffles me is microsoft is forcing people to use the new UI/Metro by not including a option to get the start menu back.

What baffles me is why are you guys hanging onto the old start button like some drug addict, its not needed period, nobody is forcing you to use Win8 so just stick with your old OS and get left behind ,its clear some users can't adapt with the start button missing which says it all, change is change so get use to it.

I don't actually use the start menu that much - most of my commonly used apps are pinned to the taskbar and thats how I like it, the start menu is still more handy for when I need that functionality than the metro stuff - I don't need any of the live tiles, etc. and it takes away focus from what else I'm doing.

Its pretty subtle stuff really but being forced (ignoring you can disable it, etc. with tweaks) to use it isn't progress.

End of the day tho people have very different uses for their PCs and approach to it and Windows 8 tries to push people towards a fairly narrow style of useage thats more in common with how I use my phone or tablet than my desktop PC. Sure theres probably plenty of people whose approach to their desktop PC is more in the style that metro works for that doesn't bother me but its not for everyone for perfectly valid reasons.

why should MS include a option to get the start menu back? they making money with the market store. in afew years everybody will be using this new UI without any moaning.

Oh so now it's about forcing the market upon people? What an excellent new OS feature. Please remove metro and desktop and just give us the MS market page, call it windows 9 and Elevon will be all over it, change is change don't you know. Throw in some charms and dingle dangles too, keep the kids happy.

I think Id prefer the metro to the start menu as I have used win8 for a few hrs, but saying that I very rarely use the start menu as I use rockerdock. So Ive removed the "all programs" from the start menu and I just search in the start menu if I need a prog thats not on rockerdock...

But I dont think MS should have banned the start menu completely

I'm confused why they'd lose the market store with a start menu, it'd just be on the start menu.

I like Metro UI with my tablet, with my mouse and keyboard it's inconsistent depending on the app, the music app for example just feels weird using mouse and keyboard, you instinctively want you swipe (As that's how it's designed)

answer this. even if MS didn't change the UI there will still be people moaning about something else about the os, right? so either way people will moan always.

It's just sad to keep plodding out this mantra. Are you incapable of independent thought?

Obviously I find it easier then you when it comes to thought and change etc..you are so rigid in thought you can't see past Win8,as to your Win9 remark I will use whatever Microsoft throw at me regardless as long as its stable and has features I need,I could say same thing about my next Linux OS as well but hey you think Win8 is the only OS I use going by your remarks.

Want to take a dig at my Android OS devices as well?..thought not  .

But that has nothing to do with losing the store, or even losing the apps, it's just that they wouldn't be viewed in the metro UI.
but they want a os that looks the same on any device so anybody can pick up any device and know where everything it..

also i said the start menu was way outdated. i've give afew reasons before.

Having it look the same is just confusing none technical people though, and it's not like Windows 8 devices are flying out, the tablet market for them is abysmal.
But you haven't actually answered the question, just avoiding it and answered with irrelevant answers.

I was just questioning your point about MS losing the store, which they wouldn't have to do if they'd had an optional start menu, as they could simply have it all there, it's just a different UI.

Baffling indeed. Hopefully they'll backtrack and reintroduce it. For the time being Start8 is a fantastic bit of software. I really have become quite fond of Win8 recently. Last time I tried it (RTM) it seemed like a mess. Perhaps it's because I'm using it on my Mac that I'm enjoying it more (trackpad gestures)

I hope they don't, from what I read they are not bringing it back, reason why we have had it for almost 20 years so was long overdue to go way of the dodo,I want changes and new UI not same generic UI that never changes ie from 95 to Win7 way too long.

no it would be far less confusing for none technical people Having it look the same on any device..

my mum is a none technical person and she would prefer the layout/UI to be the same on any device.. that way she'll only need to lean once then apply it to any device.

MS must have had they reasons for not don't making the store as a windows program, maybe security reason or something like gadgets on win7.

I'm not saying the Modern UI is bad as I'm happily using it. I just find for some tasks such as app launching and system administration I prefer the classic start menu. I only use the Modern UI for apps purchased from the store.
