Windows 8 Consumer Preview Thread

There was a bug with Sandybridge and Ivybridge platforms that was only fixed recently.

I'm running Ivybridge and had a few crashes. How was the problem fixed? I am still having to install mobo drivers from the drivers disk from the motherboard as windows is yet to support it natively.

anyone else having trouble unzipping the iso?

i keep getting errors when i try to unzip it, tried with winrar and winzip and both give same errors

Actually I've just found this, so it seems Mail and Calendar are possibly included as options within the Metro Mail App.

Just seems a bit odd that it is found there when Google Contacts are part of an add in account option with Microsoft Account options alongside FB, Flickr etc.

Also this article suggests that you can use a Google Account as your Windows login, although I don't see the benefit of that unless you can add more than one Google Account to the credentials used to sign in with.

I am very disappointed in microsoft and windows 8, microsoft are trying to attack open source software for windows applications, we have had linux mbr problems, pc gaming problems(which will negatively effect the component pc market) trying to encourage xbox, the tablet hardware manufactures moaning, all while trying to compete primarily with the apple market. The apple market is not realy one that can be tapped, a high percentage of the market would not purchase pc, even if apple released products with no usb or external storage and no removable battery.

Microsoft does have a social site to compete.

http://so.cl

Hardly a competitor...

"So.cl (pronounced "social") is an experimental research project, developed by Microsoft’s FUSE Labs, that lets you use search to express and share ideas through beautiful story collages".

And if MS thought it was competing with Facebook in social networking, they're a) deluded and b) would probably not be linking FB into MS Accounts.

Apple already sell products with no USB, external storage or removable battery and there is definitely a market for something more capable for precisely this reason.

They have bought Yammer as well but it's not really a FB competitor as it is, more a company social system.

Hardly, but still. A research project to see how popular it might become.
