How on earth was it being touted on the level it was, at that price it'll be a extremely niche product.

If ou can't remember

Yeah really for laptops and home use.

I saw the comments on HUKD's is this the full disc version or download or even an upgrade. Seems to be some confusion.

I don't know where some inforamation comes from but the place I saw the £49.50 price described the product as

Windows 8 Pro, Upgrade Edition [Upgrade from Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7] (PC)

So is not a complete edition but merely an upgrade.

There is not, so far as I can find at least, a complete edition being sold apart from the OEM version which will be licenced for us home builders to use.

You're looking at wrong store.

Think big crap over priced store.

Thanks... though the pre-order offer for £49.99 (on DVD ROM) appears to be Windows 8 Pro, Upgrade Edition, and not the full version unfortunately.

I will probably grab the download for £24.99 when the time comes though!

That has to be wrong as there is no retail full version, I reckon it is the boxed upgrade version the same as the rainforest place is advertising.

If that is indeed the case, then I am sure it can be returned for a full refund, as (unlike the other seller mentioned) they require full payment with order.

Edit: Having just read the previous post though, surely there won't be two versions (a 'full' one and also an 'upgrade'), both being sold for the same price?

You won't find the 25 one in a store. That's download available on release day
http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/windows-8-uk-cost-confirmed-24-99

The 50 one in the store is the full version, not the upgrade.

Seems like a good price, its not just a passing offer I assume

Don't have the game, but have you tried running the DirectX Redistributable?
Kicks up a similar error, I think its windows which has the fault. will reinstall

this doesn't look like the case any more, as they have released box art work for retail.

And looks like retail will be $70 in the offer which would be bang on the mark for £49.99

Yes for the upgrade.

Retail upgrade £49.99
Download upgrade £24.99

Full versions will only be OEM

Yes for the upgrade.

All the news stories are saying retail, upgrade does not cost $200 which is the after sale price. That is win7 retail price.

The Verge, quoting "one source familiar with Microsoft's plans", is reporting that full retail Windows 8 Pro will be on sale for $69.99 through January 31, 2013. Starting February 1, 2013, Windows 8 Pro full retail will jump to its regular price of $199. What is important to note here is that the $69.99 Windows 8 Pro is a full retail version meaning you can install it on any computer that can run it -- it is not an upgrade version of Windows 8 Pro.

The retail versions are only upgrade now.

Windows 7 Pro upgrade is about £150 so yes it does cost $200

I don't really care what is being reported as it is all he said she said, the only thing we have confirmed from microsoft is the following,

Windows 8 Pro Download Upgrade £24.99
Windows 8 Pro Download for customers purchasing Windows 7 in the promotional period £14.99
Windows 8 has no full retail version
