No it's worse than that...it's ported from a smartphone first!

Well, then does anyone know how to get the Xonar Control Centre working in W8 or not? If that's working I'll use W8 as my main
I can't for the live of me get it working for my brother.

have you tried comparability mode?
but everyone has it is having problems, I haven't seen any solutions yet though.
Shame theyre so far behind, why cant they be like nvidia/ati which already have w8 drivers and have updated them.
ohh updated mail app, wonders what they've changed.

I forgot about their smartphone..So it's aimed at 10 year olds who will get a PC when they grow up and win mobile users.
Installing it and running it is fine.
It's the control panel that's the problem. Although some peoples glitch and it works.
and when did development of both start?
you seem to be forgetting that as soon as w7 was released, they started work on w8 with the view of making it cross compatible to work on all devices.
Regarding WIN8 CP support
UNi drivers will work on Win8 CP, but neither Asus or C-media Audio Panels will start. This is because they do a windows check and will run only on win XP -> Win7. None of my attempts to bypass this or find a workaround have worked so far.
Based on comments, C-Media panel (XP version) might work on Win8 CP x84 (32 bit).
Some tips changing settings:
- I recommend creating an export with Xonar registry settings in Win7 and import them in Win8 (how to in paragraph 5 FAQ & Troubleshooting guide ).
- Try switching to SPDIF through Volume->Playback devices , SPDIF set as default.
- Sample rate and Front Panel Switch should work in Win8.
this may work according to google

i assume it must have its own control panel?
The code behind all 3 hasn't converged yet.
Brilliant, why didn't I think unified drivers would be updated by now.
I always use them since Asus is terribly when it comes to supporting their audio range.
EDIT: spoke too soon, at least they're half working.

Thanks, reading his notes he's hit the same problem. Yes it has it's own control panel.
5. How to save your current settings? How to manually edit the Xonar settings in the registy? (updated 02.03.2012)
5.1. Finding settings path in the registry
1)Press Start -> Run or Search field and type regedit
2)navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet in the left pane
3)Press CTRL+F and type BassBasedBLevel and click find, this will jump you to xonar registry settings path. This “folder” (0005\Settings or any other number) *is where the Xonar settings are stored.
5.2 Exporting
4) Right click on Settings “folder” (just like in the attached picture) and click export. Type a name and click Save.
5.3 Edit*
Before importing, check your current registry path for the Audio card *settings, as they might be not stored in “0005″(or any other name) like it was when you saved the registry. If this is different, you need to edit the previously exported reg file (right click->edit) , and replace the old path with the new one (example:*…005\settings to …011\settings). Save the file.
5.4 Importing it
Double click on the saved registry file and press “yes” when prompted. Note that you need to restart your PC or disable and enable your Xonar card in Device Manager in order for settings to apply.
TIP: By exporting and importing the Xonar registry settings, you can save your settings before uninstalling the drivers and installing a newer version. In this case, you have to import it after you’ve installed the driver. In order for them to apply you need to either restart your PC or disable/enable Xonar Card from Device Manager.
Those are the drivers it runs, doesn't work.
Would the registry thing work? is it worth taking the punt?
yeah it'll be another windows or two yet, but its going that way wp8 will share a load of code.
gut feeling is windows10, true unification and no desktop, but pure guess.
