Yes, it starts up/shuts down quicker, improvements to things like Task Manager, mounting ISOs without extra software, disk repairs on the fly without unmounting volumes and probably more that I haven't discovered yet.

You mean use Windows desktop instead of Metro? It's fine for every day use once you set your file associations back to the Windows software instead of the slow Metro apps. As for gaming, haven't tried as my GPU is too old.
On the Metro side of things some questions:
1. How does it cope with high res eg 2560x1440 does it fill the screen?
2. Or can you put lots of apps in it?
3. Can you arrange icons into groups so games, apps etc?
4. Can it have a wallpaper?

1. The tiles are sized according to your display so that it looks the same across all resolutions.
2. You can have as many apps as you like.
3. You can arrange them into sections but they are not titled. (Actually after you asking this, I did have a look and yes, you can name each section.)
4. No wallpaper - yet. It might be something MS do but I doubt it as the pretty wallpaper comes on the lock screen and the desktop.

hmm dont know if i want to be installing windows 7, rining up microsoft, install windows 8, ring up microsoft
There's already software out there to change the background.
Once you get over th shock of metro, which if you don't want you hardly ever have to see. Once you're in desktop you can stay in there. It's a very good and allready stable Os, nearly everything works on it and there's some great improvements over w7. Metro is pretty useless ATM, but I do think one the app market takes off then people will be surprised how often they use it.
As I've said before things like email notification, I've been wanting on pc for ages (I'm aware you could do it before, but no in a nice tidy way). I can see myself using metro as the main desktop once the apps come.

I have installed both the 32 bit and 64bit flavours of Windows 8 on HP DM1 AMD laptop. Everything installs fine, all devices have drivers and boots nice and quickly. But I have an odd problem, my keyboard works fine at first but after 10-20 mins it stops working, I have to then log out and log back in to get it to work again. The driver installed for the keyboard is the standard ps2 keyboard from MS, updating shows no further or newer drivers available. Has anyone else had similar problems?

How? Whenever I've tried it, it always said it couldn't be activated because there was no previous Windows or something like that.
I think he meant can you have more than 1 Metro app on screen at the same time, and as far as I know, you can get 2 by pinning one to the side, but that's the max, isn't it?
Metro apps are designed to be full screen.
Just worked. Chose clean install when prompted and entered the CD key and bosh.
I think so. I'm currently using it as the primary OS on one of my computers and I've had no issues at all. If I was building a new PC I would also hold off buying the OS, and just use the Release Preview until Windows 8 is released.
Install once without activating it. Then install it again using the upgrade option straight after then activate it.
