Windows 9

I don't even know what Te*** is lol. Care to trust :p

Ah I see the edit with the tills...

Don't really need more than XP as a backend for EPOS systems. It's probably XP Embedded anyway, perfect for a backend. Windows 7 would be overkill for running an EPOS front. Like running XBMC on Server 2008 Enterprise. :p

This whole 'metro style apps aren't for business or productivity' generalization is a complete fallacy and I wish people would stop peddling it.

Why people are stupid enough to let windows 8 go by just because of a UI change is completely beyond me. If you want faster and better you choose windows 8.

So for windows 9 I would like more of the same... Faster and leaner please.

Win9 with improved Metro,as usual those that let Win8 go will probably let Win9 go as well and give the usual FUD etc...seen it happen on everything OS and nothing changes lol....only got to look at this thread and see some members giving crap about Win8,Vista etc..

When I build a new computer I will go win8 and just use Start8. Should be able to use it without ever needing to see the silly metro ui:p

Exactly, I'm by no means a windows 8 purist myself and am guility of doing similar.... On my laptop I have the same thing going on but strangely I've left windows 8 as is on my desktop for some reason I don't like metro on a single monitor/screen but prefer it in dual/multi monitor mode

Funny comic about apps

app.png

If I click 'no', I've probably given up on everything, so don't bother taking me to the page I was trying to go to. Just drop me on the homepage. Thanks.

Personally I like metro, makes me feel like a douche with a handsfree mobile in my ear. Ironically I read that comic above by going on the metro xkcd app :p There is also a TED app that I like. That's all I use it for. All other times it just makes clicking on my most used programs easier with their big icons. All other times I just use the desktop mode like I always used to. I mean how much time do you spend in your start menu anyway? If you're like the majority of users then very little time, I spend just as little time in the start screen so it's really not an issue for me.

I super impressed by win 8 speed, I'm fully loaded up before my monitors even register an input. I'd struggle to improve 8 tbh.

Windows 7 & Windows XP will never be beaten. . . . . YET :) xD

XP was beaten long time ago by hackers,we all know how bad XP was in that area, as to Win7 its UI is being phased out and is going way of the dodo, down the road operating systems will involve just like Win8 is doing now and Win7 will be forgotten.

I forgot to mention Linux Distro's that are superior to Win7 as well ;) .

Back to being serious now...

Windows 8 has forced me to go back to Linux Mint, I actually hate the OS!

Things I want to see in Windows 9..

ReFS implementation

We were promised this for Windows 8 on release, but it didn't actually end up happening.

For those of you who don't know what ReFS is...

Basically it's a new filesystem (like FAT and NTFS) and it basically stops the need for disk checking, and other features - some performance based!

The death of Metro on non-touchscreen devices

Metro feels good for the first 24 hours you use it, after that it's an absolute annoyance. I don't want things moving around on my screen on a constant basis, I just want to open bloody notepad whilst keeping everything on the frickin' screen.

Metro on touchscreen is absolutely brilliant, maybe they should only have it on the ARM-based version of the OS.

A stop to the 'marketplace'

Microsoft, you are not Apple - nor are you Google.

Please stop with the marketplace, it's a terrible idea and you're in real danger of pushing good software developers to Mac OS X.

A return to 'classic shell'

Even us with fairly high-power machines still prefer the classic shell as apposed to aero. Their decision to get rid of it is lunacy!

lol.. i'm sure I've read somewhere that some businesses have.. but even so most businesses still use xp

also if it's not here to stay then why it is going to be in win9. also if it's not here to stay then why MS haven't bring a update or SP out for win8 to bring back the classic Start button

People cant use xp for ever, as the updates are comming to a end soon, so xp wont be safe to use.

I haven't seen a single actual business who's still on Windows XP. I've been to various schools, colleges, libraries and corporate premises and they're all on Windows 7.

On the flip side, I haven't seen a single business using anything but XP yet. :)

Damn ! I actually went the other way. Linux is my primary OS of choice, it's on all my machines *except* for GUI desktop where I retired my gnome 2 desktop - I had to run from the gnome 3 shables back to Windows :o

There's such a lack of direction in the linux desktop world that I just had to run  I'm sure it'll sort itself out in the future but until then ........
