Windows 9

I don't get it?

Windows 8 feels so half assed its stupid sometimes, you can clearly tell they didn't want the desktop on tablets as all you can do is fire off a few things that dont work with touch at all and Office (To lazy to make a full touch metro versions I think).

Instead stick Metro on Tablets, remove the desktop all together, and keep the desktop for as desktop users, and have metro as something optionally. If it could support something like half a screen I would find it more usefully but right now its either you use 1 app full screen or you get a tiny app in the corner and a normal sized app.

I could see myself using some metro styled section on one of my monitor, similar to how apple have the notification center but I don't need to launch any metro apps, or anything more. Just purely use it as a better notification system.

Why? The majority of the interest in the Surface Pro over the Surface RT is because you can use desktop apps on it. MS would be crazy to ignore that demand.

The rumour is Microsoft will release Windows Blue, this year for cheap and Windows 9 at a later date.

Basically Windows Blue, sounds like a service pack with a fancy marketing name!

The thing I don’t like about Win8 is the tiled desktop. You should be able to have the option of: boot to desktop or boot to Metro.

I'd like to see them save me even more space on my taskbar by removing the clock and app tray and forcing me to mouse into the bottom right corner and clicking to bring up full screen versions, never can get enough space on my taskbar.

Windows Blue is a stand alone OS. also MS will release a Blue update to Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Windows Phone 8 and the Windows Services

http://www.zdnet.com/microsoft-job-...ut-windows-and-windows-phone-blue-7000011399/

windows 9 will come much later maybe late 2014 - 2015

windows blue is basically win8 but brings updates and improvements. im abit **** that they've maked it in a stand alone OS. so it'll mean people will need to spend more money on a updated version of win8.

  • Pin start menu to x monitor
  • Have multiple start menus and pin them to x monitors
  • Improve search. Ie. if no applications show files, if no files show settings, or just show everything, with the option of selecting one of those three.
  • Smaller tile size option like wp8
  • Improved metro store, things like setting for auto updating apps, actually force providers or allow providers to actually state what's in the new update. When in the update window, if you click on an app it takes you to the normal store page etc.

Other than that can we just get some bloody hardware in the shops please. And lots off devices over lots of price ranges and features.

Why?
It's just moving to a more proactive release schedual.
3 years between releases is far to long and ~£100 is far to much. Now it'll be yearly and at say ~£25 with the lost money made up with the store income.

but the real price isn't £25 that was just a promotion. also what's next, people will need to pay for windows updates and windows security updates

i dont know why you all moan about windows 8 ive had it from first week of launch and its fine? metro screen i use for the mail app & quick check of facebook.

then i use the desktop which i have a shortcut folder pinned with all the apps i use often, so league of legends steam etc.

= win.

don't have a problem with windows 8 really.

Like I suggested earlier, anyone broadly dismissing Windows 8 for business or productivity purposes is just being obtuse.

It will be interesting to see whether they have any subscription options for the Blue update (if indeed it is going to cost) If you have a bunch of PCs then it would be nice to get a bit of a discount.

They'd better make it inexpensive though, because you've already paid for a Windows license. Plus for the health of the platform I'm not sure whether charging for this wave is such a good idea.

We'll see.

What's win8 have to do with it.
And why would you have to pay for updates, that's just jibber iss.

It very much looks like they will move to a yearly cycle just like apple. This ensures they don't fall behind and they can offer it for much cheaper, but more payments.

Metro is not here to stay, business won't buy it. Ever.

Yes they will and they are. Seen the USA defence contract?
Several companies have seen the benefits of mobile computing, is it BT or British gas that has purchased thousands of surfaces for their mobile engineers.
However generally business do not upgrade in the first year or so.
It takes time to do comparability testing and prepare for roll out.
