Same as always, places like BBC always downplay severe weather until the last minute incase something changes late on and it doesn't happen. They are afraid of being accused of scaremongering but I don't see how that's any worse than not adequately warning people about extreme weather and then causing people massive problems or even threat to life due to not knowing what is coming.I'm surprised there aren't more warnings about the coming weather - while there is still a lot of uncertainty especially when it comes to disruptive snowfall and how long the whole episode will last there is a lot of cross-model support for the initial cold which will quite likely have a significant to severe impact in some places and still the potential for a near record wintery snap in both temperatures and snow.
Going to be a lot of homeless people in serious trouble over the next few days...
