Winter 2022/23 - It's too cold :(

Averages. Yes, so sometimes it is colder, sometimes it is warmer. A period of several days freezing weather in December is hardly anything new or unusual.

The met office chief meteorologist also disagrees with you
I can only tell you my experiences, in the area I live (bear in mind weather can be highly variable across the UK as we do indeed see in the summer) a long spell of freezing weather is unusual for December, its a reason it very rarely snows in December. Especially early December.

I have now also confirmed the temps are below average, so if you dont want to accept that, then its fine, its up to you what to think.

Yes temps are below average, but they are not highly unusual and you even had the met office chief telling you so, I know who I choose to believe.

I'd still take this weather over the heatwaves of the summer, seems like 5mins ago when we had mental hot July breaking records, how fast months seem to fly by these day.

My perfect winter weather though is around 6-10c, when it is 2 or 1 during the day then you don't want to be out for too long in it. I'm currently working in a woolly hat indoors lol.

I'd take a Winter of -10 over a summer of 40 any time.

EDIT: your name checks out, by the way.

Yeah 100% the cold makes me feel alive more somehow, maybe I've Viking blood, the heat makes me feel like I'm dying with zero energy and can't get my head around people paying to go away somewhere with 40+ temps

Just been out for some bits and further down the road is a Tesla covered in frost -It's two days worth now as it's in shade from dawn to dusk -I recon he will flatten the battery just defrosting it.

Dead battery yesterday car wouldn't start, had to pick up a new one costing £140!!! Great start to Christmas.

Still, from the look of the battery it was 20 years old anyway

Where do you cycle? I'd be too worried about off leash dogs and sexual predators/murderers lurking in the bushes to go anywhere remote (like your photos) on my own. It does look very pretty though and I bet it's great being away from all the traffic. I only MTB around industrial estates these days or my local park if there's no dog walkers in the fields.

Also, do you not worry about getting lost in the woods ? lol

Please tell me this was a jokey post! :o

I love the cold/winter/snow/etc. Growing up around here in the 80s, 6 feet snow drifts in the garden weren't uncommon. It's nowhere near as bad now. In fact, the last couple of years, winters have been relatively mild/tame.

However, either I follow the cold weather, or it follows me. I can't quite decide.

In the winter of 2009/10, I lived in the West Mids and worked in Oxfordshire (RAF Benson to be precise). That winter, and for a few afterwards, the lowest recorded temperatures were always from Benson.

Fast forward a couple of years, I worked in/around Pershore, Worcestershire. Pershore soon became the new Benson in that the lowest recorded temps were in Pershore.

Now I've moved back home, often the coolest temps are recorded in Killin - guess where I work in/around now? :D
