the council do not grit the 3 miles from my house to a main road so there are cars stuck all over the place

there are hundreds of homes here paying thousands each in council tax and this is how they treat us

You do reliase that some countries do not grit roads? and if you want to get from A to B then you need to fit different tyres?

I run cross climates all year rd, and had no problem getting about

First it was raining now its turned to snow and its really coming down and its settling a bit, I expect it'll melt if it stops as its not quite cold enough the road is getting very slushy though

Its the same everywhere I think the highways agency is responsible for the main routes and they get maintained off the main road its the council and here the roads have potholes that have been there for years deep enough to dive into, its like driving over an obstacle course, nothing changes. Same when its been icy you either get trapped or you don't no-ones going to come and grit the road once you're out of residential its a different world.

May be those that get stuck should take some personal responsibility and use tyres that are suited to the conditions.

Self reliance and responsibility? That doesn't happen nowadays, it's always someone else's fault or someone else's responsibility to do something for me mindset that's rampant in today's population.

Take snow for example - if a street has a row of houses, how many will clear snow off the pavement in front of their own house? If everyone did it, the pavement would be clear but it's far easier to moan about the council not doing it and how old Mrs Jenkins has slipped on it and broke her hip.

Blimey must be an inch or more out there now and its still falling. Glad I'm home I cut short my planned vist this afternoon after looking at the forecast wouldn't want to be driving in this its funny it wasn't so cold overnight no frost and it started raining about midday and by the time I was on the way home it was already turning to snow on the hills now its reached down to this level as well. The morning commutes going to be interesting

Or use the grit bins, like what folk have been doing for decades.

Do they still exist? Havn't seen one for years councils stopped bothering with those a long time ago in these parts.

Its actually a mistake to clear the street in front of your house. If you do and someone slips you can be liable, Vs then slipping without it being cleared they themselves are to blame.
I clear and grit my path/drive and that's it.

If you clear it properly, people shouldn't be slipping on it.

But I guess that excuse is convenient for people not to do it (not aimed at you)

well they can do without all the nurses, Dr`s, firemen, care workers and Police that live here then

Aren't they/you all mostly on strikes these days or refusing to provide normal and efficient services to the needy general public who rely on you/them anyway? Chocolate teaspoon type workers. None of them are actually needed these days anyway. If the **** hits the fan...our trusty army and navy lads and lasses will step up to the plate and take care of us all the best they can without complaining about working hours and wanting 20% pay rises to prevent strikes.

Ambulance workers recently announced that they're starting strikes now too and anyone who is sick and injured should find ways to get to A&E themselves without calling them for help.... so "gritted roads" to semi-exclusive housing areas and private estates where these types of people live shouldn't be a priority. Jump in the 4x4 with AWD and traction control switched on and you'll be fine getting to the main road :p

I just made it up the hill ,the Michelin cross climates did ok as it's very steep and solid ice , parked down in the camel trail car park for an early set off tomorrow, the only shop in the village had shut early to get the staff home safely.......

Dude did you even read that article? Let me summarise it with one of their own observations:

"But no - the Cross Climate performed admirably and essentially matched the all-season (which only just trailed the full winter anyway) in each of our identical races."

What a load of dribble, clearly sponsored by Michelin, as they try and fudge the winter certification process to sell more all season tyres.

:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

Well they perform a hell of a lot better than my last yokohamas, that's as far as my tyre knowledge goes, they do look like they should do well having the treads go across like that
