They will have a lifetime of pain and probably guilt but they cannot be everywhere when their boys play. I don't think we should start blaming them for what is a tragic accident.
Exactly, they were 8, 10 and 11 boys are going to be boys. I was out playing at that age and I'm sure most people on this forum were too, including Adam. Then again, there are some sheltered people on this forum.

A horrible tragedy, rip.

better forecasts soon ... been milder today than expected.
The first of a new generation of European weather satellites is to launch on Tuesday, aiming to provide 50 times more data than is currently possible so that meteorologists can increase the accuracy of their forecasts, particularly of imminent storms.

Carried on the MTG-Imager satellites, this new instrument is the natural successor of the Spinning Enhanced Visible and Infrared Imager (SEVIRI) carried on the current Meteosat Second Generation satellites. Where SEVIRI has 12 spectral channels, MTG’s Flexible Combined Imager (FCI) has 16 channels. It operates at wavelengths between 0.3 and 13.3 microns, and has a spatial resolution of 1–2 km delivering a full image of Earth every 10 minutes.
In addition it can operate in a ‘high spatial resolution fast imagery’ mode, which can ‘zoom in’ on smaller areas of the Earth disc with four spectral channels, but with increased spatial resolution (to 0.5 km) and delivering data images of selected regions every 2.5 minutes.

Another key point is the automatic engine braking, high level of regeneration and you can simply come off the accelerator and let it slow without needing to touch the brakes.
they removed the highest level of tesla regeneration because the car could start sliding as a result of rapid deceleration, so maybe I'd disable it if you don't know iced road.

However, stick the heating on and your range is impacted significantly.

Thankfully its not too bad - averaging about 4% of the battery usage on a journey. So on a 130mile journey without heating I would have about 4-5 miles extra range left.

That's not bad.

Guess it depends on how toasty you want it.

Yes I can remember as a child we used to play in the dykes when they were frozen over but was warned of lakes at a very early age as plenty of cattle went missing. I guess it is because cold winter's are so rare now that it never gets mentioned.

I wonder if all these kind of things get mentioned at school now either?

Same - on off light snow with a slight dusting on cars, etc. not looking like it will come to much.

I know I'm getting old as I'm really feeling this cold and I've cracked twice and put the heating on and it's my feet that are cold the most, I think I need to buy some slippers. Also a woman at work said she's doing £9 a day just on heating.

Warm slippers are a must.

It's going to be even colder tonight as we are already down to -9.4 degrees C. It's forecast to stay cold throughout the week and more snow and strong wind forecast for Wednesday afternoon/night. Great, I have a hospital appointment in Aberdeen on Thursday morning which involves a trip over the pass on the Dufftown to Huntly road which sees us climbing over 1000 feet. That's going to be "interesting".

I am at ~10-13 quid a day at the moment - super annoying. That excludes the £2/day government discount though which is with us for a while, so may not be as crippling as it sounds once totted up.

I did however solve my cold feet problem (I've had it for like 30 years and only just now fixed it) with a pack of these:

Pretty inexpensive and coupled with some Mahabis slippers I am cold-feet-no-more.

If you can afford Mahabis slippers surely you can afford the heating?

The 4th Child is 6. Would you say they should be out without adult supervision in this weather?
