Winter 2024/25 - Cold or Mild? Rain or Snow?

Survived the New Year's day gales without any damage to house or trees. Today is about 3C with the sun out and a few passing clouds, I'm glad the winds are back to normal as I hate gales after suffering house damage many years ago.

Fence panel near to allocated parking bay blew over in the early hours of NYD. Was staying elsewhere.

Yet when it been very windy, the panel on the corner to it moves the most.

Want the snow to bugger off on Monday as got an interview.

Had a few tiles come off the roof which are to be fixed on Friday, luckily not too much of the wet stuff has been dumped on us. Bitterly chilly today but the sun makes it so much more enjoyable. The forecast shows it not getting above 5C for the next 10 days.

Id say worth it long term the way things are going! We have an iron enclosed fireplace with window, its an old renovated farm house so proper chimney etc. Here in Poland firewood is cheap if you live near maintained forests, we got two years worth of firewood and it cost £500.
Part of the reason we got ours was heat insurance in case of a prolonged blackout, which seem to be looking more likely not less with Mad Ed in charge of energy.

Annoyingly anything wintery which does happen looks to be north of the M4 corridor - where I am the forecast is mostly mild and rainy with slight cold dips during the night.

Sadly I don't know anything like enough about it to know what is going on but looks like quite volatile and violent changes in the polar vortex and related systems mid Jan - unfortunately I think that likely means we'll get an unseasonably mild blip while somewhere else, likely Canada, has extreme cold conditions.

Hard frost already here on the cars, etc. glad I'm not heading out in the morning, though doesn't look like it will warm up much during the day either.

Even with the heating at 18c and dehumidifier still got a 1cm strip off condensation on the bedroom window this morning. Must be cold out there.

Very cold and crisp after all that mild wet stuff
I think you will find this is near enough todays temperatures' here

Weather warning for snow. Current forecast on Sunday, 12C. What is this nonsense. I just don’t see it in the London area, I’m sure up north you’ll all be snowed in :p
