Never read the books and found it brilliant.

Wasn't sure what the hell was going on in the first scene till i started reading up on what the books are about - and came across a little snipper that i thought explained it brutally.

America's answer to J R Tolkiens Lord of the Rings.

As for the TV show - somebody on twitter summarised it nicely. Its the sopranos meets middle earth.

Utterly enthralled with it so far, and we're watching it at the same times as the americans which makes a change. Makes my sky subscription well worth it. The other Atlantic HD must watch as far i'm concerned is Blue Bloods.

Roll on episode 2 !

Interesting, get the impression those who know the books are a little too enthusiastic about how good it was.

It was okay, they didn't really start it off very well in so far as, for a series that not everyone is familiar with, not a whole heck of a lot actually happened, normally you'd have a pretty major situation happen in your first showing, even if it was a double length episode to start. It was character building, nothing wrong with that but realistically nothing interesting was learned about any characters. I think I'd describe it as character introduction rather than character building, no depth was shown to any of the characters really.

I see potential, there was some good performances but there wasn't a single point that stood out against other fantasy/period type shows. Fantastic characters, certainly not in the first episode, fantastic action, fighting, dialogue, scenes, story, not really. Hopefully it was a very slow "building" episode, but thats not really the best way to grab viewers and keep ratings and get second/third seasons.

It just seemed to be lacking something, in depth character building for at least a couple characters, start of a war or something, nope, slight indication the dead guys are back after being gone for 1000 years, sure.

But that's how the first book is. At the beginning nothing massively significant happens. The characters are introduced and their background is covered. To do that in the TV show would take many episodes and it wouldn't work at all. Also, at the beginning it is never confirmed what it was that ambushed them in the woods. Everyone believes it to be everything but. There is no war yet, the book and show are called "A / The Game of Thrones" and the war for now is the political plots and intrigue that a medieval kingdom such as King's Landing is plagued with.

For them to remain true to the book, you couldn't really add in anything that you asked for without veering off on a complete tangent and ruining the story. Within the next few episodes you'll get most of what you're after :)

Recorded this last night on sky atlantic HD so am looking forward to watching it later this week sometime...

Watched this last night, Mainly because my friend told me about the books but I'm too lazy to read them. I thought it was OK but I usually don't like these kind of programs heh. I will continue to watch it though.

Emilia Clarke is hot too. In a cute way heh.

Oh yea.. that was good.

Nice to see Sean Bean in his element!

It's about time he looked the part:

I'm not familiar with the books.

I personally felt it started a little slow and I new what was going to happen as all the preview material and interviews (and given I've not even read that much) said how the King was going to come and take Sean Bean's character away to join him. That's basically all that happened aside from establishing who their enemies are.

Everybody who is familiar with the books are convinced it will be amazing though.
Given that it's HBO though and having worked on Generation Kill, which equally had a slow start, I'm inclined to reserve judgement because it's likely to get better.

The end of the episode was a good one though... made me want to see what the outcome was!

Was majorly impressed, been waiting for this since HBO took the option out on AGoT.
And not too much longer to wait for book 5, I am in geek Valhalla :D
