How did people like this show. The acting was diabolical, the cast was atrocious, the props were terrible (as I said to someone else, the dead direwolf looked like someone from props stole their daughters stuffed toy and covered it with tomato ketchup), and what the hell was that dancing scene with Bran. You do not jig along rooftops like a wooden puppet. I nearly rage quited at that point, but tried to give it a bit more time. Alas, it was not given much more, as ALT and F4 were pressed soon after. An awful shame, as A Song of Ice and Fire is one of my favourite books. This show really should have had "Starz" at the beginning, and not "HBO", as it was in no way comparable in standards to any other of their finer stuff, and reminded me of that terrible Canadian rendition of "Ben Hur" in terms of quality. Still. We have another notch in the "We can't seem to make good Fantasy shows" string with this. I am honestly surprised to see so many people enjoying such garbage.

Lol..........:D

Enjoyed it, and just having read all the books I thought they did a good job on the characters, did exspect the hound to be Bigger but loved his helm :)

Keeping it in mind that it's 10 episodes and this is the first hour so plenty to happen yet. Looking forward both nervously and excited as to how they do certain scenes and "flying creatures" .. even though the latter do only play a very small part in the books so far..

Really enjoyed this.

It is a huge ask to match the scope of the books on TV. They are giving it a game effort.

I was a little disappointed about the amount of CGI. I would have loved them to have bit the bull it and shot the show on location with proper sets rather than green screen.

wait for the second series.

If this continues to sell well they could end up with a bigger budget come series 2 / 3

I haven't read the book but quite enjoyed it tbh, I will continue watching it.

I don't watch much TV and pretty much never watch a series, now I have this and the walking dead.

Many of the people singing its praises have read the book, mind. People I have spoken to away from this forum who, like me, haven't read it, felt the same as I did; it was ok, but nothing special at all. A bit dull, if truth be told ...

As I say, its just different tastes. Neither my work colleague or my wife have read the books but both of them absolutely loved it (particularly my wife). Some will think it great/average/rubbish, others will think differently.

I think that's fair tbh, but it's probably fair to say if you ask people what their opinion of GoT is after the first chapter it's probably the same - good but not great.

Tbf pilots are rarely amazing because TV series have long character arcs and much slower starts -seemed very promising though and I liked the visual style of it all.

After all Spartacus had a so-so pilot but by the end it was epically epic epicness :D

It's true about teh book, the pilot was good if you hasve read it as it gives a taste of how they are going to handle the material. Having said that, my wife, who hasn't read the books, really enjoyed it. She does like fantasy stufff in general though, and I think taht's teh other important bit, you'll enjoy it more if you like the genre in general, especially as there is so much rubbish fantasy tv out there - there isn't much of a decent quality to compare to, unlike sci-fi.

Read the books but never thought they were as good as many do. OK TV show but it's been a while since I read them and so I don't remember enough to remember what's been missed.

One point; the poster who thought Jaime was too nice? I always liked Jaime as someone who has been led astray by his evil sister and is really torn between being the great knight he's supposed to be and loyalty to his sister. He was the one character that I thought was really well done.

WRT the opening credits: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7L2PVdrb_8

I just noticed that there are a number of tapestries depicting the fall of the House of Targaryen and subsequent rise of the House of Baratheon, which all happened before the TV series started. E.g. the Stag and the Dire Wolf taking down the Dragon with the Lion watchin in the background. Also, the actors names are associated with their house's sigil. It's that sort of Attention to Detail that makes HBO win.

Quick silly questions as I watched this yesterday while massively hungover at a mate's and unable to watch again.

Spoilers will follow if you haven't watched the pilot yet.

The two who were having sex at the end, brother & sister right?
They were the two mentioned in the letter Sean Beans wife got from her sister that are believe to have killed the king?
Was it actually the king who died or the kings right hand man?

I know these are dumb questions but I don't want to go into episode 2 at whatever point without being straight on what's what :)
