Also Daenerys Targaryen has been recast, Tamzin Merchant and the producers have gone their seperate ways. The new actor playing her is called Emilia Clarke.

Lastly the talent behind the show in considerable. They have just signed up world class Chief Make-Up Artist; Paul Englen who has done work for Gladiator, Star Wars, Casino Royal and Kingdom of Heaven.. amongst others.

Or live in the US (or unless you acquire it by other means..) :D

That's a pretty damn good investment by Sky though, the HBO stuff is almost without exception the best TV programming to come out of the US.

This looks an interesting concept, hopefully it will be somewhere between Spartacus, which was epic fun but quite one-dimensional, and the Sword of Truth series which is absolutely dire.

Of course, now that Sky own HBO, you won't see this for five years unless you have Sky.

Thankfully I do have Sky, so I will most definitely be watching this in all its HDey goodness, hopefully it will be as epic as the books :)

However as Rich says above, I am certain that those people who want to watch it will acquire it by "other means"...they did with The Pacific so I see no reason why they wont with this and probably every other program that HBO make from now on.

I'm currently reading the first one on my Kindle and am 7% in - when does the story pick up as at the mo its just an endless list of people with silly names meeting other people with silly names? I dont do 'fantasy' but have heard the books are good off the back of the hype for the series.

About 15.57% is where it really starts to kick off. Then at 29.1213% it's true epic nature begins to shine through with particularly mind blowing peaks at 47%, 83% and 95.9%.

You have clearly already written it off so you might as well stop there. Nobody gives up their silly names and there's magic fire and dragons and giants and all sorts of wonderful fantasy that you dont do.

There's not much fantasy in the series, and what there is mostly spoils it (with the exception of the end of book three). The first book at least is a thinly disguised fantasy remake of the Second War of the Roses (the historical events, not the film).

Best reply I've seen on here :D

I'm just reading the second book now, not as good as the first so far but I'm sure it will pick up. I'm still a bit shocked by the end of the first book tbh, I didn't think it would actually happen (the event, not the book ending :p).

Ahh that's interesting, I didn't know that, maybe I'll get a book about it in the future.

Just had a look at the cast for that, think they pretty much got it right on with some of the roles - however the guy that is playing Sandor Cleagane simply doesnt look anywhere near as bad-ass enough, and correct me if I'm wrong but weren't the Lannisters supposed to have golden hair? (blonde!)

I do get the feeling that this series of books is one that will forever go unfinished, which is a crushing shame, but I just cant see George churning out the conclusion to this story before he keels over, especially with these TV projects and stuff taking up half his time.

Awww give Sean Bean a chance. He's a nice guy! His roles are pretty diverse so I'm personally not expecting a Boromir shadow.

You never know, though. Game of Thrones is much darker than even Boromir's role in LOTR so one would hope that reflects.

I've forgotten it all now! Still waiting for the 5th book to appear! Original predictions of early 2006 were a bit off, as of Oct 2010 he still has 5 chapters to finish before even the prrof reading can take place!

I'm sure he is lovely, he just cant act.

have to agree, keep seeing people saying the cast is great. I can see an irksome midget, Sean Bean who is a woeful actor, Sarah Cronicals bird is pretty average at best, theres one "hottie" on the cast, Ronan from Atlantis whose talents involve...... being tall but most certainly don't involve acting in any way shape or form.

I quite like good fantasy tv shows but, cast wise it doesn't even look close to good. No.6 though has been very good in a couple things I've seen, he was good in a series called New Amsterdam, was probably never shown over here, couple years old now.

Don't know anything about the books though, HBO make good quality tv but they seem to get involved lately either directly or joint funding of projects with heavily English casts that just have in general very very poor acting in them.

Ah, not HBO but another heavily Canadian/american funded british based show in Pillars of the Earth, looks largely good but the acting, is sooo weak.

THe general group of english "drama" actors is such poor quality compared to the USA's.

Can hope for the best though.
