Winter Is Here - A Dance With Dragons

Is the series worth a read?
I hate investing time into something only to get disappointed by loose ends in the plot, character issues (Characters changing really winds me up too when they act out of character too)
Seems there's been some disappointed/mixed feelings on the last book?

The first 3 books set a standard that the 4th can't follow - the latest one does a very good job though!

I suppose you should get the first one and decide for yourself.

He does seem to be into some weird stuff

We know from one of the earlier books that he has knowledge of necromancy

I find it passing strange that you think the third as good as its predecessors but don't like the fourth :/

It started off great but has fell away recently, high hopes the author can rescue it though!

The characters are well written and generally consistent there are the odd instances that have irritated me but they may be purposeful directions from the author with reasons to be revealed.

Certainly worth a read and up there among the better fantasy series.

Did you read the third as two volumes or one? I read it as one and thought it was an excellent follow-on and probably better than the second in the series. The 4th....man imo
it could have probably been skipped because so little of significance happens in it.

I'm not sure what you mean. Can you use titles when you're saying 2 volumes, etc?

Do you mean you read 3 and 4 as one and count the fifth as 4?

He's talking about book 3, A Storm of Swords (both parts Steel and Snow & Blood and Gold).

He's wandering if you actually prefer A Feast for Crows over Storm of Swords or if you're mistakenly calling Blood and Gold book 4 (it's 3 part 2) then you may be saying you prefer Blood and Gold to Steel and Snow.

Simples ;)

I also think Storm of Swords was the best of the series. So many jaw dropping moments occur that if they do it right in the TV show they'll be tlaking about it for years. Joff's Wedding, Red wedding & Mountain vs Viper just for starters.

That's why i was asking for book names, not volume numbers.

I was completely unaware that ASoS had been split at all, I read it on my phone as one book.

I'd also got mixed up with which books ran concurrently. I thought it was 3 & 4 not 4 & 5, hence the confusion :)

I suppose it is still very easy to prefer one over another, depending on whose storyline you're enjoying the most. I got very bored of Dany's story and I also didn't really like the bits in Dorne.

Feast for Crows (book 4) was a bit meh at times for me, because it pretty much focused on Kingslanding and Dorne, two places which didn't really appeal to me. But saying that, the Red Viper was kinda cool.

Chop off all their heads and sew cows heads onto their bodies!

Justice!

Really hate the Freys!
I say pigs, either way

The North Remembers...

So, going by the end of DwD, I'm guessing that Dany and Drogon are going to either take command or 'recruit' Jhaqo's khalasar and have them attack the Yunkai at Meereen
