Winter Is Here - A Dance With Dragons

I reckon it's Benjen or Brynden Rivers.

The obvious choice is Benjen but it is so obvious it might be a red herring.

Brynden Rivers is Bloodraven who is the three-eyed crow - Bran's teacher in the cave.

It's possible Bloodraven warged a wight and the result was Coldhands or it could be a way of showing that wargs can retain their mind when they become a wight. If the latter then it might be a clue for
a coldhands-Jon return although I hope not

Still think he is a reanimated form of uncle benjen, either on his own abilities or by possessing by a warg, as in the three eyed crow.
The crow i assume is now old, and unale to fight another winter war, so he needs a replacement, that will be bran. As aemon has now passed it would make sence for the man who travelled with him to be nearing the end also.

I assume he somehow helps to fight on the side of fire, along with the men of the watch.
I just can't wait to see what the ice chaps have on their side to rival the dragons.

I didn't think that Brynden Rivers being the three-eyed crow was definite?

I guess nothing is definite but the evidence for it ADWD is pretty compelling

He tells Bran he was named Brynden, he was a lord, that he has 'a thousand eyes and one' and that he was a member of the nights watch. He is also described as having long white hair and one red eye.

I think Coldhands might be another former lord commander, i get the feeling he has been knocking about as Coldhands for a while, so that would rule Benjen out

I think that child of the forest refers to him as having died long ago? - benjen would only have died a few years ago

No idea what we can or can't discuss but:

In Ep 5 (or is it 4, watched it at 5am today as I couldn't sleep), what's with all that black smoke that woman gave birth to?

Also, why can't all women's bodies go back like hers did?

You are talking about the tv adaption, question best left until tomorrow when it will no doubt be explained.
Not sure how the tv will play it out, but if it is like the books, then she will have given birth to a shade, a shadow warrior build of the will of stannis.
It nips off to do the bidding of stannis, what that is will be revealed on tv tonight.

Back to the books.
What do we know of Howland Reed?
With a name like Reed, do that make him a ******* of his region, or just coincidence?

No, he's Lord of the Greywater Watch. He's the father of the two kids with Bran.

Don't know what the *******s of that area would be. Snow, Rivers, Flowers, Sand, etc.

I think as it's technically the North, they'd probably be Snow.

I'm 99.9% certain that the three-eyed crow is Bloodraven. He probably still has one of the two Targaryen swords (Dark Sister) with him as well which is interesting considering Jon is nearby :p I've read someone suggest that coldhands may be the Nights King.

Bog maybe :p

Since he is the only confirmed survivor of the Tower of Joy incident he will be a major player in the next book hopefully or ADoS.

Also, really disappointed that they seem to have left out Meera and Jojen in the tv show and gave their parts to Osha :(

I don't think they have. It's just not got to their bit yet.

Well, I don't think anyone has been cast for their roles for this season or for Ramsay Snow for that matter. I suppose they might be cast for next season but it seems that they will be diverging quite a bit from the book in this storyline. i would guess that
Rickon and Bran both go with Osha to cut down on the number of new characters introduced.

It's around about the time when they should make their appearance but I think it wouldn't be a big deal to cut them, they don't exactly do much anyway.

I disagree. I think they're pretty central to what happens to Bran, and Osha won't be enough to fill their part.

How would they split anyway?

I know they have said they are moving parts of book 2 into series 3 and vice versa, I reckon they will push most of the Theon/Ramsay/Winterfell story into season 3. I hope they work something so that we still get Jojen and Meera, or at least a Meejen combo character, I'm a fan of Meera in the books, less so Jojen but I think they are pretty important characters in Bran's development.

However the omens aren't great. Why change Asha to Yara to avoid confusion with Osha if she just moseys off to Skagos or wherever with Rickon and isn't seen again (for at least a few series). Also I might be missing something but I don't remember Osha in the books talking to Bran as much about his dreams. My guess is they will have Osha and Hodor go with Bran and make Luwin survive and take Rickon

How epic would a 3hr movie be of the rebellion of Robert?

So many cool things alluded to they could cover.

Ned Stark and 6 of the best knights in the land vs the 3 Kingsguard including Arhur Dayne (who's made out to be pretty much the greatest knight who ever lived). Ned only living thanks to the intervention of Howland Reed.

The forgotten hero Jaime who ends up being despised by all despite having saved pretty much everyone in Kings Landing.

Battle on the trident and the sack of kings landing when tywin rocks up etc etc

It would be brilliant perhaps they will do a spin off if the tv show catches up to the books or they deliberate about ordering a full season eg similar to the Babylon 5 movies. Still Robart would have to be played by a different actor and it's unlikely Sean Bean would return.

So is Dany Azor Ahai reborn?

Thought it would be Jon Snow? At least aluded to, he may or may not be a male targarean heir to a female stark, rather than ned's son.
The deepest secret in the land.

The Howland Reed chap I am looking forward to seeing. As was just mentioned the fight against the greatest knight in the land, the intervention of Howland Reed, saving Ned and winning the fight. I wonder was itna straight stand up fight, or were there venoms involved.
When deepwater moat was taken bynthe men of pyke, the crannogmen were seen to pop up and use dirt and poisons etc, the red viper fought with such weapons, I wonder if Howland used magics learned frommhis trip to the green isles, or nature in his weaponry.
