Wondering How To Get A Job As A Gaming Scientist? Ask Richard Huddy from AMD!

If we could see the bottom half of that picture would we see a Mini-Me?

Do Americans always think you're evil because of your accent?

After DirectX 12 is released, what percentage of games do you see using Mantle still? What percentage would it take for you to consider Mantle a success?

Why are AMD interested in 3D audio with their TrueAudio chip but seem to be uninterested in 3D visuals? Considering GPUs deal with graphics aren't the priorities the wrong way around?

Is it true that if you were in charge at Nvidia the Titan Z would have cost $1,000,000 *puts little/pinky finger to corner of mouth* ?

What new technology would you like to see in the world of gaming graphics that isn't possible with today's gpus/game engines?

Guys, this is your chance to ask Richard Huddy anything! Lets try and move on now from questions about hair and ask something technical hey? Where are the questions about GameWorks, OpenFX/OpenWorks, Mantle, or anything else that you can ask this industry expert. A touch of humour is fine, but they can also be serious questions that will provoke interesting answers that will benefit us all. Lets see what you've got OcuK.

What is OpenFX?

We've already asked about Mantle.

When will AMD's version of GameWorks be available? Which games will we see it in? Will it run identically on AMD, Nvidia and Intel?

What other Nvidia technologies can we expect to see AMD copy?

Is anything being done about porting Mantle to Linux or was that all talk for publicity?

question:
As the world of computers has evolved fast over the last few decades, Consoles Being more like computers what you do think the next Huge advancement would be? Full VR? Holographic games what are your thoughts?

Question: When will we see a game built from the ground up using Mantle and Trueaudio, as well as other AMD techs? if there is one already in production, care to give us a teaser?

Implementing these things AFTER the game has started development (Lichdom, BF4, Sniper Elite 3 etc) does not really count, i am talking games that were planned to use this tech BEFORE going into development, before a single line of code was written.

How many AMD APUs/GPUs do you use to run SPECTRE?

Is ray tracing a pipe dream? When will we see full implementation in games?

With both current gen consoles utilising unified memory, do you see PCs going more down this route too, and will it leave those older tech (with separate system & GPU memory) at much of a disadvantage due to VRAM limits on 2, 3 or 4GB cards?

Will Mantle ever develope into something more than a resource saving API?

I think what i would like to see is it wrapped up in a bundle with TressFX, True Audio as a Game works stile library, but open, and more than that. I would like to see more GPU Physics and other rendering effects that perhaps have not been done yet.

I feel Game graphics rendering has not really changed all that much in the last 5 years or more, i feel modern GPU's are capable of more and there seems to be a lack of vision and originality.

Mantle is a big push to an industry seemingly stagnating, its worked in getting Game developers and API developers to break the chains of old comforts to look at doing it better.

Now i would like to see the visual boundaries pushed on.

I'm a 30(ish) guy who's worked in Tech for the last 15 years. Desktop, server and networking support. Is it too late for me to take some of the skills I've learnt and my love of gaming and forge myself a new path, and what would be the best path to take to move in that direction.
Or am I doomed to being the angry nerd from the IT Crowd for ever.

Will nvidia accept you back when AMD crumble?

This is quite clearly a joke question but somebody didn't get it.

Is it likely that AMD will produce their own console? (handheld or otherwise) - AMD have the experience in terms of hardware, they have an edge where API is concerned and have the company image. It should be possible and could tackle nVidia's offering.

You mentioned OpenFX in a recent interview, has there been any movement on this front, is the idea going to make it to market?

Which brings me to my other point:

AMD caused a stink with the GW's accusation, many had the opinion it was mud slinging due to Nvidia's response stating 'you don't need code access', however, Nvidia clearly worked hand in hand with CD's regarding changing TR game code to ensure smooth running on Nvidia hardware which Nvidia conveniently brushed under the carpet in reply to AMD's acussations:

Nvidia's Cem Cebenoyan:

Most developers don’t give you the source code. You don’t need source code of the game itself to do optimization for those games. AMD’s been saying for awhile that without access to the source code it’s impossible to optimize. That’s crazy.

Nvidia's Andrew Burnes:

We are working closely with Crystal Dynamics to address and resolve all game issues as quickly as possible.

Please be advised that these issues cannot be completely resolved by an NVIDIA driver. The developer will need to make code changes on their end to fix the issues on GeForce GPUs

TR Patch 722.3 Notes:

We’ve been working closely with NVIDIA to address the issues experienced by some Tomb Raider players. In conjunction with this patch, NVIDIA will be releasing updated drivers that help to improve stability and performance of Tomb Raider on NVIDIA GeForce GPUs. We are continuing to work together to resolve any remaining outstanding issues. We recommend that GeForce users update to the latest GeForce 314.21 drivers (posting today) for the best experience in Tomb Raider.

That's how things should be done.

At the end of the day, regardless whether there is/isn't any wrong doing, if accusations like these cause a stink and publishers make a stance and say no to any of these practices, it can only be of benefit to gamers.

What do you think of GameWorks and due to recent bad publicity surrounding it, does it really represent a threat to gamers?
