Woo-hoo, the clocks go back to GMT this weekend!

We had a power cut about 3 weeks and I left all the clocks out knowing this was coming. I have one radio controlled clock that will do itself which is cool, but **** me. What a pain in the ****. Just to make it ****ing darker. And them have to do it all again, and again, and again.
Just to help a few Scottish farmers

Nobody ‘invented’ time. It’s a constant which we choose to measure differently come certain times of the year.
I guess that depends on what you mean by 'time'. I suppose we invited seconds and hours etc... which some might equate to 'time'?

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how many clocks they've got and had to change? I was counting them all and it came to 20. 22 if you count the dash cam and TomTom. Some items change on their own but a lot does not.

It's frightening seeing how many clocks are in the house, including the central heating. Plus I've probably missed out the camera that's still on BST.

Yeah, loads.

We've got 2 alarm clocks, 2 car clocks, one of which sometimes doesn't like being changed and you have to unhook the battery to reset it. Oven, Microwave (which doesn't work unless a time is set) Coffee machine. which has a timer like a teasmade and is also awkward to change. Luckily my kitchen clock which I have to stand on a worktop to reach is radio controlled, so that's already set itself.

I also have two analogue watches that have day/date functions, so setting them an hour backwards, without winding them backwards is PITA. I've got to set them to yesterdays date and then wind them forwards 23 hours.

All so it can be dark in the evenings. Brilliant. Who's ****ing stupid idea was this and who is responsible for it's continuation? Idiots.

Is it? I feel no difference except I can see it very slowly drawing in at 3pm versus 4pm. It's still light but not as bright as an hour ago.

It's December and January that really kick. Who the **** wants sunset at 4pm? ****s. If we have to change from BST, I'd rather sunrise at 10am and sunset at 6pm for those really short days.

Pretty sure it's for the stock markets.

Well I started feeling those darker nights even this week before the clocks changed seeing it dark at 6pm and soon tonight it'll be 5pm likely. Luckily I don't suffer the SAD syndrome but it does get to me.

Start of December as you said, I always remember it feeling the worst. Depending on the sky and how overcast, I remember it dark around 3:15 - 3:30pm. The nights felt so horribly long. Then the same for mornings that it would remain dark until about 8:45 - 9:15am.

I hate it even with a neutral daylight light. It's just not the same as you know as soon as you leave that one room.

The difference here today is quite unreal. Almost 4pm and the houselights are already on. Yes it's terribly overcast but you can see the massive change already. Wasn't normally until 5:30 - 5:45pm the lights went on for badly overcast days.

Did you put your clocks back by an hour and a half?

That doesn't explain how your lights on time is an hour and thirty/forty five minutes earlier by putting the clocks back by an hour.

You tell me why I'm looking at a dark house and very dull day at 16:21 right now. Even the street lights are on.

Because it's terribly overcast and the sun sets soon. Given the same conditions yesterday you'd have the same lighting conditions around an hour later, not an hour and thirty/forty five minutes.

And the clocks going back by 1 hour still doesn't make it get darker 1hr 45minutes earlier in Scotland

Oh really? Is that why FBi7 is confirming the same thing and I'm just looking out the windows to something imaginary?

Further up in the Highlands gets darker even quicker than here.
