Woo-hoo, the clocks go back to GMT this weekend!

Sincerely genuinely annoyed at the UK doing this every year, it REALLY ***** me off! Scrap this stupidity.....it makes NO sense......more day light towards the end of the day is just more logical.

Who cares if it's abit dull in the AM, it soon gets light, but it getting dark mid afternoon is absurd.

BST all year works, it just does, and if this clock changing nonsense must occur, it surely makes more sense to move them forward an hour in winter to have a reasonable 6pm sunset.

"Sacrificing" lighter mornings is worth that....because again even if we did my frankly flawless idea, the light is beginning to creep in anyway so no one would really suffer, and we'd all feel better mentally.

As it will be tomorrow, draconian ideas remain and we'll all be miserable it's dark at 4.30pm :(

Has any government ever talked about scraping this idiotic time shift ?
Or explained why we need it?

Because I'm pretty sure the economy would benefit from people who forget what time it is etc if we scraped it, plus mental health benefits of people with SAD etc

Grrr

I was responding to your comment that animals know when the rush hour is. Are you standing by this ridiculous comment? Cause I've not seen any animals wearing a watch recently. Do they collectively think "Ooooohhh! It's GMT! Quick! Let's head to the roads and run out in front of the cars! I can't stand winter me so I'm just going to end it now!"?

Wildlife adapts to our habits. When we suddenly change, it causes chaos. Also, we move our activity in to a time when some of them are particularly active. It upsets pets as well, who are well adapted to when we go to work and arrive home.

Both dogs asking to be let out their crates and have breakfast at 6.30am. Luckily I can just tell them no so they stayed in there another hour while I zzzz

Of course animals know time, what a ridiculous comment.....endless examples of it in nature.

On top of the entire planets ecosystem understanding time, ask my dog, who turns up at exactly 6pm BST every day with his dog bowl in his mouth, but thanks to human barbaric clock messing, it will be 5pm now! Poor thing!

Permanent GMT is the only sensible option we have. Let midday be roughly the middle of the day and stop changing the clocks and messing everybody up.

People who like to start/finish early in the day can do so, those who prefer the opposite can do so.

I am bemused by the number of people in this thread who seem to think the time on the clock dictates when things have to happen. "Thou shalt work from 9 in the morning to 5 in the evening" is not written on a tablet of stone somewhere.

How can people enjoy long dark cold nights.
That's called "Winter". Happens every year irrespective of what we set our clocks to. Orbital mechanics doesn't care.

It does matter because you are cutting an hour of daylight in the evening which is when most people have free time so outdoor activities which require sunlight become less possible.

Finally back on the correct time offset and get some usable daylight in the morning makes everything so much easier. Looking forward to a run without a headlamp.

that is the opposite for most people IMO. The morning is by far the easiest time to get in some activities before work, school, shopping, dinner, kids homework etc. It is dark anyway bu the time all of that is done so it makes no difference yo people who do things in the evening
