Woolwich serious incident

If only brutal punishments had any kind of effect like that which you desire. It must be quite disappointing to realise that every single example of extreme punishment employing system shows no effect of deterrency. Ever.

I think you made a word up.

we wouldn't spend small fortunes on them if they weren't in a prison cell

I don't care if you think that, brutal punishments would be fantastic and are exactly what the country needs, there is nothing in place whatsoever to deter criminals. What I condone about Sharia law is the fact that it allows pieces of filth like Adebolajo get off with crimes like this. Oh and the fact that the punishments aren't reserved for those who actually deserve it... Also, there is nothing hypocritical about my post whatsoever, you can agree and disagree with aspects of something without being a hypocrite.

Way to interpret something in a completely uneccesarily black and white manour for the sake of sounding punchy, there's a word for that: No personal insults..
You say it's what the country needs?, for what intended goal.

State your goal & I'll tell you if what you suggest will achieve it or not, as if it's a reduction in the overall crime rate then I'd suggest perhaps some light reading on the subject.

Jeez i didn't think id be agreeing with Bitslice's pre xmas rants but i side with him on most of those opinions.

Lock Adebolajo away for life, let him appeal to anyone he wants, let them put him back in prison, let him get shiv'd one day in the shower. Its money well spent if it bolsters our/EUs legal system. He isn't going to win.

Says the guy resorting to name calling ("numpties") and can't fathom the blatant truth that had he not posted it we would not be having this discussion and the albeit limited publicity, but absolutely more publicity than not posting it at all, that brings.

I'll try and help you here...

You're suggesting me proclaiming my annoyance at this individual getting publicity, is actually giving him the exact publicity I'm complaining off.

Now, I'm suggesting that you repeatedly harking on about this is you not actually trying to make a reasoned and considered point, but instead just you being a typical internet nit-picker who is doing this for no other reason than to grief.

So let's consider this shall we...

We're discussing this on a thread in an obscure computer hardware forum. How many people will read this? Tens? A couple of hundred? Hardly high profile is it?

Last night, at 10:13pm, it was discussed on the BBC1 news, probably with something like 6-7 figures of viewers?

Yet here you are repeatedly nit-picking in a typical internet couch-expert way at me discussing this matter with a few dozen (like minded) people?

Let's even look at it this way shall we - http://lmgtfy.com/?q=adebolajo+appeal#seen

Do you see "overclockers" at the top of this list? You'll instead notice "official" news outlets there with millions of viewers...

In conclusion, nit-pick something that deserves to be. Honestly! Stop being such a griefer!

Discussion wouldn't be happening had you not posted it. Thus, the added publicity that posting it in this thread with like minded individuals or not has given it would not have happened. Simple logic yet you can't (or rather, ignorantly won't) accept it.

What's the problem with this "discussion" (as you put it) between a few dozen people? My complaint is about him getting "publicity" (again) broadcast to millions of people by main steam news etc.

You actually consider the discussion by a dozen people in this computer hardware forum "publicity"?

But carry on with your non-point... You raised an argument for no real reason other than to needlessly grief, and you don't like it being pointed out to you.

Anyway, let's move on... I am...

I did. I was on the crapper with my phone at the time and well, meh. The point was made :p

It costs more to execute. Example study from Colorado shows it to be six times more expensive than life imprisonment without parole: http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/costs-death-penalty

You're objectively refusing to acknowledge simple, simple logic. You brought attention to something you think should not have attention brought unto.

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/publicity

pub·lic·i·ty (pŭ-blĭs′ĭ-tē)
n.
1.
a. Information that concerns a person, group, event, or product and that is disseminated through various media to attract public notice.
b. Public interest, notice, or notoriety achieved by the spreading of such information.
c. The act, process, or occupation of disseminating information to gain public interest.
2. The condition of being public.

You posting it has done exactly that.

*BUMP*

One of killers of Lee Rigby (Michael Adebolajo) has been handed a whole life tariff by the Judge. The other killer (Michael Adebowale) was given 45 years minimum term. Personally I think this is the right decision, Although I'd have been happier if they both had received whole life terms.

One thing that I don't fully understand about this though is why people outside were calling for the death penalty when we don't even have a death penalty in the UK. Also, wouldn't executing them just make them martyrs ? Seems better to me that they just rot in jail till they die.

Good call by the judge. But I think it's time to bring back hard labour for this kind of scum.

Whilst I'm not sure where I stand on the death penalty, have to say I agree with Sliver. The scumbags said they wished they had died when shot by the police... so giving them the death penalty would be what they wanted. I'd much rather they rot in jail.

Abbas Lakha should have been sent down as well for spouting garbage like this:

"The right and proper sentence is one which does leave open the possibility of release in the future. Any other sentence would be inhuman."

I imagine their lives inside wont last that long anyway to be honest.

I'd like to think you're right, however people like Peter Sutcliffe and Ian Brady have managed to stick around for decades. I wouldn't hold on to any hope of vigilante justice. My cousin was brutally murdered by her partner some 3 years ago and I remember at the funeral almost everyone I spoke to said he wouldn't last 5 minutes in prison. He's still there. :(

They deserve death. 45 years will cost an awful lot of money.

I agree that they deserve death, but giving it to them just makes them martyrs, which is what they want and such martyrdom would only serve to inspire others to follow in their footsteps.

As a taxpayer, I don't mind a few of my pennies going toward keeping them in jail for life.

i think we get the best of both worlds

they suffered the pain of being shot and now get to enjoy rotting in prison for the rest of their lives

works for me

yes they deserve death but a)we don't have a death penalty (which is a good thing) b) dont make martyrs out of idiots

They will die just as everyone else does, it might just take a while. They won't die as a result of a sentence being passed from the state because we are a civilized nation.
