World Cup 2010 - GROUP C (England, USA, Algeria, Slovenia) **spoilers**

Ok, but I reckon if we hadn't conceded that goal courtesy of cinderella with the gloves on, england would have maintained their confidence from that 1-0 lead and carried on to play like they did today.

Yeah, it clearly shook them up good. So you might be right.

Today was a good performance but i'm seeing comments like 'There wasn’t a weakness in the team tonight.' which is an attitude we can do without.

We weren't perfect by any stretch of the imagination and (as someone pointed out last night IIRC) we need to be able to learn from the bad points of wins as well - not just take the attitude 'hooray we won, everything was perfect, no room for improvement' as it ends up with what we had at the start of this tournament, a string of weak wins that weren't properly addressed and the results later suffering for it.

Too much I see the attitude that because of scraping a win, suddenly we are an invincible world beating domination machine.

'We can easily beat Germany' ...no, we can't, not 'easily'. We probably are capable of a win if we address issues that nearly stung us today - a greater team than Slovenia may well have punished England for the few defensive slips we saw earlier and there was still a lot of 'hoof it' football that again, a better team than Slovenia may capitalise on more.

I ask again, what's wrong with Hargreaves?

Is it just a case that the manager hasn't picked him because of lack of first team football?

Ignore my location, I have always been and will always be an England fan! (I feel I need to add this disclaimer before the England/Scotland bashing gets going!)

So what happened to Fabio being a bad manager? morons

I think he's been tactically turgid, and his team picking decisions odd.

Through the qualifiers he delivered results; and, well, results trump my ill-informed opinions but now it really matters we've seen one of the worst England performances ever (against Algeria) and an unconvincing transit through a relatively weak group. That doesn't speak to a great international manager.

Do any of you actually watch the football!? So busy posting on here :p

Screw you Scottish posters as well!

Yes i watched all 3 of Englands games, thought they were lucky to go through (based on the first 2 games) and i do admit they played better in the 3rd game, but still i think they are lucky not to be going home.

To be honest, I'd say USA deserved to top the group, but I don't think Algeria or Slovenia deserved to finish ahead of England.

Still, 2 goals in 3 games :o On the brighter side only 1 conceded :)

So now that England have beaten Slovenia and drew against the U.S and Algeria they can take on the world, I see.

I detect huge amounts of sarcasm.

That game should have been 3/4-0 at least

Will performances like that we CAN trouble any team. We passed the ball well, defended well and gave the opponents no time on the ball.

i thought it was an ok performance....we looked good on the ball at times.
other times like near to the end of the game it was the usual looking like a bag of nerves apart from Ashley Cole who seemed pretty solid. it is a bit annoying when they don't performn anywhere near what they should as we have quite a bit of individual talent.

If you thought we were bad, the women's world cup is currently on. Spare a thought for poor Azerbaijan, who are currently 17-0 down to Sweden. Sweden have scored 4 in the last 6 minutes :p

You do realise that, by and large Slovenia did what Greece did, prayed USA would draw and didn't really do much of anything. They rarely attacked in numbers, sat back and are a pretty awful team.

The biggest difference between this game and Algeria's, was pace, Algeria have no real quality, but they have pace. Their final ball, and shooting, is basically appauling, but they troubled us simply by running hard up and down the wings, pushing us back. That just didn't happen today, we weren't constantly pegged back.

The biggest problem is normally Gerrards wandering, and his and Barrys, and Johnsons awful defensive cover/positioning/work. The biggest difference was the other team barely tried.

England were massively better, but not outstanding, the goal, lets be honest, a better keeper would have saved, though had it beein 0-0 I'm pretty sure we'd have found another goal anyway.

We're also forgetting the fact that Johnson should have been on a yellow in the first 15 mins, and they dived outside(or was it inside) the box trying to get something, Johnson defensively was awful again, constantly being passed around, if Slovenia had any quality at all they'd have punished his mistakes time and time again.

Barry made an untold number of errors from the walking slowly with the ball and somehow miscontrolling it which led directly to a chance, to fouling quite a lot and rarely being helpful defensively.

We played one of the worst teams at the tournament, and should really have walked out 4/5-0, yet we scored a single goal that should have been saved.

I'm yet to be truly optimistic, the USA beat us in the group and from the highlights, had an awesome match and I couldn't understand how they weren't 5-0 up at half time alone.

last 16 was the bare minimum most people though we'd get before the tournament, its not suddenly an unbelievable team because people over reacted and panicked and though the competition was over.

Slovenia are very very poor, we beat them, I'll be happy if we beat a decent football team, we've not come close yet.
