Wasn't to bad, USA are a good side, they beat Spain and only just lost to brazil FFS.

I think it's more a case of how england played. They just couldn't hold the ball and pass it around, instead just booting it up to heskey which yeah works against **** poor teams and may allow England to fluke it to the quarters but as soon as they come across a good team, they are gonna be taken apart.

They need to lose the failed tactics they keep using over and over again and start actually trying to play football, passing and moving.

We do have the players capable of going far we just dont play them correctly.

We really cant play lamp/gerrard like they do when they both come back to win the ball it makes the idea void.

They all do well at their clubs because they play in a role they are accustom to!

----------------- Rooney ----------------
J.Cole ---------------------------- Lennon
------------ Gerrard ---------------------
----------------------- Lamps -----------
---------------- Barry -------------------
A.Cole --------------------------- Johnson
---------- Terry ----------- King ---------

Tbh I wasnt expecting a win against USA anyway as said previously they did well in the Confed cup and are a good test.

I am just so annoyed by Fabio, promised so much but hasn't changed anything at all has he really.

I also dont understand why we dont keep the ball! Why does no one other than Arsenal in the EPL understand this concept? If we have the ball pass pass pass cant go any futher forward just go back and start again ffs!

As soon as we get forward theres nothing on we waste it with a cross and crappy pass START OVER AGAIN! Its a lot harder for the opposition to attack if they dont have the ball.

This is what we should have been doing!

Green - Schoolboy error cost us the game and should cost him his place in the team.

Cole
- Had a steady game but he wasn't really tested at the back and he didn't do much going forward.

Terry - Never really looked troubled and looked a class above the American strikers.

King
- Fell to pieces as expected but didn't do anything wrong during the game.

Johnson - Excellent going forward and did well in defence considering the Americans threw everything they had at him.

Milner - Anonymous but he was sick before the game and shouldn't have started.

Lampard - Didn't have any impact on the game but I expect him to improve with Barry alongside him.

Gerrard
- Excellent in the first half but his influence waned as the Americans grew stronger in the second half.

Lennon
- Managed a few decent crosses but wasted far better opportunities.

Rooney
- Everything he touched turned to **** and he didn't look threatening in front of goal which was worrying.

Heskey - Won everything in the air and set up Gerrard for his goal but his performance will ultimately be judged on his shot straight at Howard.

Subs

SWP - Didn't do a single thing down the left but that's Capellos fault for playing him there.

Carragher - Should've seen red for his first tackle and struggled with every American attack.

Crouch - No time to do anything.

Well its a joke, I dont want to beat the crap out of Capello with the "in form" stick like everyone else is but its plain simple that some of the players he has taken should never be there.

SWP - Not good enough, we have seen this plenty of times before.

Carrick - He is only there because he plays for Man Utd, if any other player had such a shocking season for a team other than one of the top four they would not be within a mile of the England team.

Upson - Lol

Green - At best an average keeper, good shot stopper but that is about it. Nothing else going for him, combine that with a poor season he has playing for a poor team he would struggle to make my squad and get nowhere near the first team.

James - See above, also carrying an injury.

Barry - Injured, wasted squad space.

Lennon - A good premier league player but like many players he is not good enough at the highest level, will be really found out next year playing in the CL.

Heskey - They say pictures are worth a thousand words.

All of the above players are not in the England team through either merit or form. They are simply there because they have been there before, for all his grand statements Capello has fell into the trap of previous managers and picked players simply because they have played before. Its a moronic attitude, I can maybe expect a Confrence manager who does the job part time giving this as justification for picking players but not a bloke on £5mill a year.

A large part of it is down to the press and banging on about this and that BUT its the England managers job to rise above this and pick your team not let the press do it for you. Despite promising early signs (similar to McClaren) it seems Capello is not strong willed enough.

The press keep banging on about pace being important, I wholeheartedly agree BUT THERE HAS TO BE A ******** END PRODUCTTTT!!!!!!!!!! we have Lennon and SWP who can only run in straight lines. They cannot beat players, they cannot score, they cannot cross. If you want someone with pace pick a sprinter from the olympic squad, if you want a footballer dont pick Lennon or SWP.

Sitting at home we have Adam Johnson who is one of the best young players around, he has decent enough pace and can beat any player out there and put in a good cross. But hell we better listen to the papers because he doesnt have enough "experience" so dont pick him. How else are you supposed to get experience?!? Imagine if every other country had the same lack of testicles problem players like Pele would never have got the chance.

Thankfully Milner is there (but he shouldnt have played last night as he was not fit) Joe Cole id there but he didnt play him  you have left Young at home, he didnt even get a look in  and Downing  This country has a serious problem in that everyones face has to fit, you can be a fantastic player but not get near the squad because you dont play for the top 4!

The goalkeeping problem is self explanitary, picking an out of form, low on confidence goalkeeper is a recipe for disaster. On the bench you have one of the best young keepers in the world coming off the back of a great season but no "experience" LOL AT YOU CAPELLO!

Was impressed by the defence, good job guys Carragher has surprised me as I thought he would struggle. Lampard and Gerard did a great job, now hopefully we can get past the other moronic press assumption of them not being able to play together. The wingers were poop but we have already covered that then we get to Heskeylol.

I would put up with him in the team if he gets the best out of Rooney but he does not. Lets dispel that myth as well (another press notion) I cannot find the link (can someone help with this) but Heskey/Rooney Rooney has managed 5 goals. Rooney/Crouch is 7 and thats discounting the extra goals from Crouch. Combine that with the fact that Rooney was completely anonymous last night, I hardly knew the guy was playing apart from the occasional obligatory camera shot of him looking frustrated and out of ideas so where in the game last night was Heskey getting the best out of Rooney? It of course doesnt help having dumb and dumber on the rings who only manage a decent cross by accident rather than design but Heskey DOES NOT get the best out of Rooey and the bloke is so ******* useless he couldnt hit water if he fell out of a boat

As someone said above as soon as Heskey got clear through and everyone was going mental I just sighed into my beer and cried on the inside as I knew what was coming.

England are not blessed in the striker department, so play Rooney up front solo, he cant do that is another press myth, havent seen any problems for him doing the role at Man Utd all season. Then have Gerard behind him free up Lampard and have..... oh wait we dont have anyone to sit because Capello left our only other decent tackling midfielder at home and brung an injured Barry /slowapplause for that Capello.

I have been saying it for ages that the squad he has took is the wrong one, things arent this way but I would love him to have to sit down and to justify and convince people of why his squad selection is right.

We will do ****. We do not have the players to score goals. If USA out score us in the remaining games we will go through second into the nasty side of the draw and get spanked out of the tournament in the last 16, I can honestly see this happening. If we do improve, and lets face it we can hardly get any worse, and get through first in the group. I really see us falling apart against a half decent team as the squad setup is so poor.

Dont get me wrong I will shout and scream and support England until I am blue in the face like I do every time they walk on the pitch. But lol at our chances and lol at anyone who thinks we have a chance to do well in this tournament. Hopefully I am completely wrong and we will win it and I will eat bucket loads of humble pie, but thats very unlikely.

Deluded Arsenal fan by chance?

The whole point of playing with a target man is that you hoof it onto his head, it is the traditional English way, not pretty but can be effective, especially with a lump like Heskey or a super freak like Crouch.

Did anyone else see Heskey take King out at one of our corners, I think he's got a bet on England not getting past the group stage... :D

No not at all I support Fulham SWP has been given chances again and again and again and just doesn't deliver I'd have taken walcott.
And playing the long ball game wont get us anywhere against better sides, it's predictable. We are at our best passing the ball around waiting for spaces down the wings for lennon as SWP isn't going to do anything.

And yea I agree with above Rooney was dreadful he's a very overrated player has he ever even done anything at this level worthy of his reputation because I cant see it.

'96 squad wees all over this one for all the talk of this "golden generation". Sheringham and Shearer, lethal partnership mixed with Gazza, Platt and the pre-sick note tag Anderton providing the creativity.

heskey played well imo won pretty much everything, but you just cant rely on him for goals, which could be our down fall.

why the heck is he not starting joe cole is anyones guess. and king was an accident just waiting to happen...

Having seen every single one of Rooney's "big" games, he isn't over rated, but he's the only player we have of generating the kind of magic required to win a world cup. This obviously makes the press and so on blow him wildly out of proportion :p

Worryingly we didn't see any of it last night, so it he has to get better. Didn't help that his support wasn't of a high order though.

Algeria v Slovenia, bit of a bore-fest so far :(

Rooney has only been over rated recently due to the WC hype, he was never going to win England the WC single handedly.

Watching the game now, can't see England having too many problems with these two.

Not exactly come to life this world cup yet, not had a game with more than 2 goals so far and only South Korea have scored 2!

This games been a snooze fest so far as well, find myself being more irritated by the horns when the footy is crap!

Agree. Should beat both and we should win the group on goal difference.

America are a very good side, and probably the strongest team we'll face until the semis should we make it, but I can't see them outscoring us to top the group.
