That's because despite glamming it up (probably for cash) international football is pretty irrelevant these days. It's a downwards step for the quality of the champions league or probably even the domtestic leagues some of these players play in.

I imagine it's even harder for a messi who has turned up to be surrounded by poo when week in week out he's playing at a far higher level against higher level opponents.

I find it hard to get excited about a world cup these days, I look forward to the standard and matches in the champions league far far more than standard of matches in the world cup.

Regardless, I'm sure Messi would like to win the world cup with Argentina. As would any of the competing teams. If they didn't want to, they can always retire from international football, any time they like.

Just stick Gerrard up front with Rooney.

Lampard and Barry in centre.

I'm not saying you are wrong but there have been a lot of people saying this but how do we know it will work? Capello isn't an idiot... He gets paid a lot because he is meant to know what he is doing, and although he is not faultless, I'm pretty sure the reason he isn't doing this is because he believes it will not work out - not because the idea never popped into his head.

Good question. Maybe Gerrard and Rooney both wander too much?

Why hasn't he tried it in friendlies though?

He's tried it in training reportedly. Guess he doesn't like the look of it?

Personally I see no problem with a Crouch and Rooney front line, with the latter playing further forward. It's just the fact that every other player on the pitch sees a tall player up ahead and gives up trying to play along the floor bwecause of it. Crouch actually has a bit of technique when you play it to his feet, yet he can barely head to save his life. Go figure.

I heard Rob Green was apart from the squad yesterday for special training, he managed to concede no goals from 4,000 attempts so it must have worked.

Him and Heskey will re-join the squad today.

Pass completion for the USA game.

I hope ITV HD do not cut into a advert this time, coincedently they dont it when England scored last time, wonder how much they got paid to do that.
