Having watched the first Germany goal again, Terry was probably more at fault than Upson. He was miles away where he was supposed to be and left Upson with way too much to do.

Upson should have done better, but you don't expect Terry to be miles out of position.

AND Terry was miles out of position for the second goal.

Wrost performance goes to...

1st place - Upson
2nd place - Terry
3rd place - Heskey...oh wait sorry, it was actually Rooney on the pitch

England practise penalties forgetting that there was 120 minutes to play before hand - Disgraceful campaign from England. Let's hope we don't see the likes of Mr Average Premiership next time round because I think a lot of lower league players could have done a lot better.

I thought Johnson was the worst player tonight, time and time again he was miles out of position and Podolski/Ozil profited. The third goal I think it was (the one where we had a throw then about 30 seconds later they scored) we lost the ball and Johnson just stood still half the way in the Germany half and only started running back when Podolski had the ball 20/30 yards ahead of him. He has to be one of the worst right backs in the tournament.

How long will Argentina's luck last? Saved by the woodwork, the referee and a stupid defensive mistake there.

Mexico could quite well have taken that to the wire if the goal had been correctly ruled out, great goal by Hernandez.

Was Messi even playing? Massively overrated imo :p Higuain was entirely absent and Tevez was just rubbish, lost the ball constantly. Superb strike for the goal but even then he was lucky the ball fell to him after he'd lost it again.

Mexico would have got much further in this tournament if they'd made better selection choices, Vela looked poor in the first few matches, Hernandez has looked class and should have started from the beginning of the tournament. Barrera looks awesome, yet was only on the bench?!? incidently someone should sign him, looks very good.

Umm Higuain scored, I don't think that counts as 'entirely absent'... Agree that Messi wasn't anything special but he's playing significantly better than Rooney has during the tournament, and will score sooner or later. The worry for the other teams left in it is that Argentina are still scoring plenty of goals even without Messi scoring. That's pretty scary!

The 3rd goal came from a free-kick on the edge of their box where Lampard went for goal. Only Cole stayed back and Germany hit us on the break. Johnson could have stayed back, but of the 3 that went forward he had the most reason.

And Johnson was no where near as bad as Upson, Terry or Rooney today, those 3 showed nothing.

I'd say Ashley Cole was pretty shocking today as well, he consistently failed to track Muller's runs. Basically the whole defence was poor, with Barry in midfield and Rooney up front being pretty awful as well. I think Milner and James were probably the two best players.

Our entire defensive problems came from poor positioning today, from Upson, Terry and Barry.

Nobody in midfield picked Ozil up which caused even more uncertainty for the CB's. Terry and Upson (in particular) kept coming out of the back 4 to win the ball which left huge gaps and Germany picked us off.

The problems with Johnson and Cole comes from the system we're playing; with Gerrard and Milner being the 'wide' players, there's a huge emphasis on Cole and Johnson to provide the width. With those 2 going forward and nobody (Barry) there to cover we were always going to get exposed.

This made me laugh a lot!!! :D

Gonzalo Higuain

Games played - 3

Shots on target - 11

Shot off target - 3

Goals - 4

Higuain, was absent in that game like every other he has played yea...?

As for Messi... the 16 times he has been fouled might have something to do with why he hasn't scored any goals yet he was completely shut out by Greece but they still won 2-0. He is still there and contributing. He has made the most runs with the ball attacking defences on his own and has had 14 shots of target so far, the most of any player! Only a matter of time before he scores.

You say "saved by the woodwork" and I say "the shot wasn't on target". You say "a stupid defensive mistake" and I say "bad defending". You could spend the whole match hitting the crossbar or almost defending perfectly, and you'd lose.

I'll give you the referee though.

1. I was joking about Messi, hence the :p

And yes Higuain was absent tonight, even the commentators pointed it out. He got handed one goal by a stupid defender....that's it. He was poor in their first match as well, missing 2 easy chances. He's no Crespo imo. Just seems like one of those players who coasts through matches, gets the odd goal but doesn't get involved in the general play.

Is there any chance FIFA could ban replays on TV... in your home? I mean, can they instruct the broadcasters not to show replays or they won't be allowed in?

Probably a stupid question I know :p

If a team pours all their defence into stopping one player, then you use other players and go round the crowd that are busy keeping Messi in check. Job done. You either leave off a bit, and he plays to his full potential, or you put all your resources into stopping him and run the risk that the 2nd best player is left with a bit too much room.

With players like Messi or Ronaldo, the fear of what they might do can be as bad as what they actually do.

Well, if they own the rights to the games - which they do - then they can do what they like.

There'd be uproar though.

Sorry, my joking detector must be off today after so many crazy comments by other people.

And I still disagree about Higuain, he scored the goal he was meant to, I'm sure he will play against the Germans as well.

I'm pretty sure that's impossible, no one would watch Football any more I think.

Was thinking that when Mexico had that shot headed off the line, don't remember a replay for it ever being shown??

Would fifa conveniently not show that replay if they saw that one was in as well to save further embarrassment.......it didn't look in to me though anyway :p

Do Fifa produce the feed all the TV companies get or is it someone else?

For the record....

Decisions of the referee

The decisions of the referee regarding facts connected with play, including
whether or not a goal is scored and the result of the match, are final.
The referee may only change a decision on realising that it is incorrect or, at his
discretion, on the advice of an assistant referee or the fourth official, provided
that he has not restarted play or terminated the match.

So the ref could have and should have reversed the first goal, but he didn't follow the rules of the law as written by Fifa in their 'Law of the Game 2010 / 2011'.
