Was thinking that when Mexico had that shot headed off the line, don't remember a replay for it ever being shown??

Would fifa conveniently not show that replay if they saw that one was in as well to save further embarrassment.......it didn't look in to me though anyway :p

Do Fifa produce the feed all the TV companies get or is it someone else?

No, a replay was not shown and nothing was said during the BBC's analysis.

Another awesome result for me:D...Argies through to meet Germans...gonna be a good one by the looks of it.

Missed the first half as i was out having something to eat but in the restaurant some guy had his portable tv on...cue a big crowd around a 3" tv..all that was missing was a chicken and a goat:D:D

Came home saw the 2nd half and thought wow after Tevez's 2nd goal...simply sublime that was...have to say Mexico were unlucky to go down one goal as it was definitely offside and the refs should have called it really but tbh even if it was 2-1 i still think the Argies would have beaten them...saying that they did sit back and let Mexico come at them with that new Utd signing scoring a lovely goal but little too late.

Desperately wanted Messi to score and again he almost did but was denied by the mexican gk...must be awfully fustrating for him not to have scored as he should have had a few by now. But it shows just how scared teams are if they are marking him out of the game and letting Tevez/Higuain to score the goals.

Anyhow nice result...another £200 bagged so im £510 up today so cant complain...looking forward to the argie and german game...gonna be tight and close i think....germans will give the argie defence a good working over i imagine.

Wrost performance goes to...

1st place - Upson
2nd place - Terry
3rd place - Heskey...oh wait sorry, it was actually Rooney on the pitch

To be fair to Upson, he was third choice for that spot, probably 4th in many people's eyes and so he had a mountain to climb - he could have been playing out of his skin and only looked average.

It's not really his fault he was asked to perform at a level above that which he is capable of really.

It's a massively different situation to say Terry, who is supposed to be a top quality player and he was all over the shop today.

So the ref could have and should have reversed the first goal, but he didn't follow the rules of the law as written by Fifa in their 'Law of the Game 2010 / 2011'.

Only if he genuinely realised it was incorrect... Though looking at it, it seems pretty clear that he did.

Exactly, seen as it was shown on the big screen and 84,377+ all the other people seen it.

Surely that implies the rules are for the 2010/2011 season and not this season?

They meet during March, next meeting is 4-6th of March next year.

So from March this year to March 2011 I'm guessing.

Surely they would meet in March to finalise the rule changes for the next season? Bringing in changes mid season would confuse the hell out of the players, managers, officials and supporters.

I don't know then...

That is the latest set of rules on the Fifa website, I doubt they make that many changes to it any way when they do.

For the record....

Decisions of the referee

The decisions of the referee regarding facts connected with play, including
whether or not a goal is scored and the result of the match, are final.
The referee may only change a decision on realising that it is incorrect or, at his
discretion, on the advice of an assistant referee or the fourth official, provided
that he has not restarted play or terminated the match.

So the ref could have and should have reversed the first goal, but he didn't follow the rules of the law as written by Fifa in their 'Law of the Game 2010 / 2011'.

Very interesting indeed!

They are specifically NOT allowed to use video replays as a source for their advice though, which the linesman did. There was a question IIRC, some point during this season a ref "appeared" to have heard something from the 4th official that made him reverse his decision, there was some controversy/questions around it because people though the 4th official may have seen or been told by someone who saw a replay of it, though for the life of me I can't remember the game/decision, only that there was a question over it this season for sure.

Officially they can't use video replay to change their decisions, though with some balls the ref might have seen the video replay, changed the decision and when questioned by hoards of press after the game he could say, well in the end the video replay has changed my decision to the obviously correct decision and that he couldn't see how video replays could harm the game as the correct decision was reached.

He'd lose the world cup final, or a shot at it though, and Blatter would be all over him trying to get him fired from his job, but one ref somewhere sometime has to make a stand in my opinion. Because if he made a right decision and it was due to video replay, in such an important game, it would get SO much press attention and Blatter wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

I thought Johnson was the worst player tonight, time and time again he was miles out of position and Podolski/Ozil profited. The third goal I think it was (the one where we had a throw then about 30 seconds later they scored) we lost the ball and Johnson just stood still half the way in the Germany half and only started running back when Podolski had the ball 20/30 yards ahead of him. He has to be one of the worst right backs in the tournament.

Yup, that goal wound me up no end for two reasons, as you said Johnson made no attempt to get back but worse was, he wasn't involved after the throw and should have retreated to the half way line just in case anyway, I don't know who it was , but someone was basically dead level with Johnson and followed the scorers run the whole way and was almost along side the scorer in the middle of our box. I'm not sure if it was Gerrard, whoever it was was outside their box waiting to try and score, he had a reason to be there and when they broke he ran and almost made it.

Johnson had no reason to be there, made no attempt to get back and could, had he started coming back 10 seconds earlier, easily got back to block the cross/hold the player up.

He also for the previous goal did make it back to put an attempted tackle in, I'm not a big fan of professional cynical goal chance stopping fouling, but if there was ever a time, he wasn't close to last man back, they had broken, they had people streaming forward and we had 1/2 people back, if he just clatters into him its a yellow and no goal and still 2-1, instead he made a half arsed attempt to win the ball after being caught up the field again.

SWP spent more time inline with his back four and not needlessly staying up field than Johnson did, if someone who didn't know who those two players were saw the game they'd think Johnson was a right winger asked to play right back and SWP was a well disciplined right back and thats shamefull, not least because SWP is so absolutely poor but was asked to play right back and unlike others in the squad, actually did the job asked of him.

Gerrard has said he would like, or is happy, for unfabulous capello to remain.
Capello signed a 2 year extension with no opt out clause. So he gets another £12 million. Lol, what a farce. All that money for what will amount to absolutely nothing.
Even if what capello is doing with the england team are all the right things to get england to win, it's all academic because those players can barely pass the ball accurately and they're too slow.
