World Cup Group B (England, Paraguay, Trinidad and Tobago, Sweden) **SPOILERS**

IMHO England would struggle to beat Argentina or Cote D'Ivoire based on what we have seen so far

On the first half performance they could rival any team, and if sven plays his cards right and not make "mental" substitutions (Thanks wrighty :D) they have a chance.

After this game i HOPE Sven will take some time to look at the footage and put in some killer tactis, thats what he gets £3mil a year for.
I seriously doubt he will.
Tactically, he still seems to be making the same mistakes as Euro 2004.
We might have the players who could win The World Cup, but we certainly don't have the manager to win it.

You notice when you watch the SA teams play:

1. They can pass.

2. They are fast.

3. They score, then keep on the attack and try to get as many goals as they can.

England's usual style is get one goal and then sit back and defend, which doesn't work!!

We do need the tactics sorting out desperately!

When you see that starting 11 today tho it was like  the names in that team where phonominal tbh one hell of a strong side as long as it all works i would have said crouch being one of the weakest and having rooney in but after crouches 1st half i think hes got it in him! As said 2night on MOTD him and owen are starting to link up a lil once they are use to the partnership could be lethal. The amount of passes thru he played and times he got people on was superb!

What sven needs to do if the players get tired out there is to make 2 substitutions on 60 minutes - with one of them being a central midfielder coming on- bring off the 2 players who have the lowest fitness according to tests or the badly performing players. Then make another substitution around 75 minutes. I mean a 10 year old boy could probably tell you this, but sven is on £5Million a year and he has absolutely no clue on how to deal with the heat or tactics in general.

i have to agree, if england played one of the better sides THEY WILL GET BATTERD, they will prolly progress and beat the next opp but nothing more, sorry just not good enough never will be

Bloody hell you are more anti-English than the regulars on here make me out as being ;)

Not sure I agree with the last part of your sentance, England have good players but I don't think they gel well as a team, too many conflicts like Beckham-Gerrard-Lampard. All three want to be in the centre but none of them can play there without a proper DM backing them up.

In terms of the full 90 then I would agree on that, however I think that in terms of what we saw from the first 35 minutes of the England game that England are a better side. Argentina would never have been in a position to score the goals they did against our defense, but I think we would suffer the same problem as the Ivory Coast on attack i.e. inability to finish.

Riquelme was running rings around England last time he came up against them so I wouldn't be too sure about them not scoring goals like that again. Also they still have Messi to come into the side!

I was screaming in the pub for england to push forward when there keeper went off, the defence was very nervous in the box, but lamps and stevie g seemed to think it was target pratice, should have sent it down the lines and boxed it for a knock down and a lucky punt into the goal.

Neville got forward a lot then he had to bring it back to centre mid

Don't care what we should've/could've done, we got off to the best start possible & the other result made it even better. That'll do me:)

I think englands first 11 if rooney ever gets a game, is as good or the best 11 in the tournament. The other 11 are distinctly average or not really the inform players in the premiership.

It worries me that if owen gets a knock before rooney can be full fitness, we have not much left to offer.

I still think we will get out of the group, past germany/poland or ecuador then lose.

Perfect start for England, results wise. Getting a bad performance out of the way was a good idea as well. They should win the group now and most likely meet Costa Rica in the next round.

Typical England garbage. Whats the point in taking strikers if you're not going to use them. Created nothing, lost the ball every 10 seconds. Atleast its 3 points.

I felt entirely comfortable during the second half that the result wouldn't change. I thought Paraguary were poor, and despite some things England could have done, what they did do was clearly enough.

In the first half we looked strong even with the heat and 'Little Dracula' taking it out of us. Apparently we got through 50 extra litres of fluid! I think we should comfortably win the group - potentially on 9 points if we get our act together against a rough looking Sweden side.

Well, i've just watched Martin O'Neil give the best analysis of the England match so far.

He is not impressed.

The underlying problem, no matter what you say or how much you love throwing your weight behind the team is that we dont play football under Sven.
We need to change from a clueless mess. into, well even half decent footballing side to compete in this tournament.

Great start results wise but a poor 2nd half - though we didn't give up too many real chances bar the slip from Cole. I'm sure the heat did play a part in the tail off in the 2nd half but I agree with the BBC pundit guys that Defoe (I don't rate Bent) should have been in the squad instead of Wallcot.

Interestly, I think the best team I've seen so far have been the Ivory Coast - I know the Argies won but a draw would have been a fair result. Zokora (spelling) in the middle of the park was awesome. From watching the African nations cup I thought the goal keepers in virtually all the teams were week and this could be the IC's undoing. If they get through their tough group I would fancy them to do very well though.

Holy ****!

for as much as i usually just go PFFFTTT they were pants, and i said they were pants this time, i have to say that i would collapse playing in this heat in england for 90 mins at that level, so god knows what it was like in germany

Yeah must have been a scorcher and hopefully something will be done about it, FIFA had no qualms about the intake of water, was just that bloody slickback Mexican trying to control the show.

 Right...a result isn't about how we play is it..it's the scoreline. The scorelines today were basically perfect. Lets hope we can take it futher.

We got the result yes, but it was a lucky own goal that got us it, everyone has been saying that T&T is an easy 3 points for us, and even on the match with Sweden, they were expecting the Swedes to get a cricket score, but they didn't, they could'nt even beat them when they had a amn sent off, so id say thats no way an wsy 3 points for us now, T&T played great i think, we played atrocious in the 2nd half against Paraguay, we were lucky not to have drawn the game.

If we play as bad as that 2nd half, then as i say 3 points against T&T is not gona be easy for us, we need to win, if we do win, then i think Sweden will top the group, and we'll be 2nd, but as i say we play like that dreadfull 2nd half, we could be in for a shock, as even i thought T&T would have been walked over by the Swedes.

I watched the Argentine game and for me it was far more enjoyable than the England game - lots of passing, lots of attack from both sides, how football should be.

Before the Paraguay game I thought England were in with a great chance of winning the World Cup. Now I have dramatically reviewed that.

They didnt show nearly enough ability/potential, (remember, they were trying their hardest)

Ecuador,Argentina,Ivory Coast, Mexico,Holland,S&M,Portugal ALL looked better, this means England have a mountain to climb and must improve.
