19 in 38 in his last season at liverpool, not as good as previous years and Liverpool agreed with me as they sold him for peanuts.
Sold for peanuts as he had 1 year left and could have signed for another club for nothing in January

To say Owen is finished is nothing short of stupid.
It is now 120 days since his injury and he has played barely 3 hours of football in that time.
He's not a kid anymore and cant retain the fitness Rooney can or create something out of nothing like him.
He cant boss and dictate a game like Gerrard , Beckham or Lampard are capable of.
He is a goal scorer , nowt else , and when there is little or no supply to him the end product is zero.

I seem to remember another centre forward getting the nations grief before a major competition almost 10 years ago to the day.
He didnt do too badly.

You are right to a point, he is rusty big time i wouldnt say the supply is that bad to him tbh, he just isnt going to get tha space in international games to use his explosive pace to a point, but that coupled with the fact his explosive pace is pretty much all but gone doesnt bode well for the future, personally i think his problem is in his head he just imo is too scared to use his pace incse the hamstring goes ping again

The comparison with shearer is nonsensical, they may both be forwards, but thats where the similarity ends, shearer very early on in his career adapted his game after some terrible injuries in 93. shearer was an immense finisher from inside or outside the box, could head the ball, had power to shrug of people.Owen without his pace just isnt that good a player :( i think he should have adapted his game by now, now he is too old imo.

Sven has said that he will rest "one or two" of the booked players (Crouch, Gerrard and Lampard). I would have thourght Gerrard would be one as he is the most likely to get booked, so i guess Crouch would be the second as i don't think he will leave both Gerrard and Lampard out at the same time. If Crouch doesn't play and i expect Rooney won't start either, maybe we will get a chance to see Walcott?

Hmmm.
Id always thought about Owen myself , especially after france 98 when the media and all the lasses were fawning over him.
I always used to say "Wait till he gets towards 30 and his pace goes , he's got little else to his game"
Was I right? maybe , Was I insanely jealous at the attention he got and the fact he didnt play for my team? without question.

I think I was wrong tbh , he does have more than pace to his game and is lethal at close range - I have seen that first hand last season (although not often enough)
At club level , imo , he is the difference between finishing 7th and 4th.
The team play more attacking and entertaining football when he is in the side and that to me is the mark of a good player.

I wasnt making a direct comparison with Shearer at a playing level , just the fact that both have tasted both barrels of the fickle support / media going into a big tournament.

With all due respect fella , nobody on this forum can tell me how good Shearer is. :)

I remember Shearer getting stick again and again. Can't say I ever chimed in.

He got absolutely lambasted in here a couple of times when he was in an England shirt.

I reckon the majority would love a fully fit Shearer playing in our England team atm.

But Crouch gives so much to the team....

^^Not sure if this was meant to be sarcastic or not but.......

I agree there.. I think after a few more games he will ceretainly be banging those goals in and he will improve a lot more on his general teamwork. I think he would be a good partner for Rooney..
