World Cup Group B (England, Paraguay, Trinidad and Tobago, Sweden) **SPOILERS**

I reckon the majority would love a fully fit Shearer playing in our England team atm.

ONLY with a strong manager so it doesnt mean Shearer is picking who he wants to play with rather than whats best for the team.

For some reason Sven is worried about his players on yellow cards, yet he says he will only rest one or two of them - why not all 3? If he wants to go down that route, I'd replace them all with Rooney, Carrick and Lennon (pushing Beckham inside).

^^Not sure if this was meant to be sarcastic or not but.......

I agree there.. I think after a few more games he will ceretainly be banging those goals in and he will improve a lot more on his general teamwork. I think he would be a good partner for Rooney..

He is not a goal scorer and never will be, he lacks pace, finishing and unbelievably is pretty poor in the air. He is the modern day Emile Heskey who's best attibute is that he makes a draws a defender or 2 towards him. Owen, Defoe, Bent would all be better partners for Rooney.

It was mate , I think he's hopeless.

as a toon fan i think owen is far from past it, as vandle said he's coming back from injury and aint as young as he used to be

at club level owen is lethal, and if sven plays the game to support owen he will see goals, lumping it to crouch and expecting owen to get knockdowns is NOT the type of game he plays, so no wonder people are slating him.

Spot on.

Rooney is going to start on Tuesday, Hargreaves will probably get the nod ahead of Carrick in a holding role, with Gerrard & Crouch rested due to yellows, Lamps is a nice lad so less likely to get another:

Code:
      Robinson

Carragher Rio Terry Cole

      Hargreaves

Becks Lamps Cole

       Rooney

       Owen

With Gerrard in for Hargreaves and a fit Neville in for Carra thats what I'd be playing anyway.
In other games yes, but for Tuesday I think there are a few more options Sven could go for if he hadn't of exhausted his gambling glands:)

Agreed, I just meant that'd be my first choice England XI :)

I hope Hargreaves plays well finally starting a game in his preferred position for probably his first (and only) ever time. He's never shown much for England, and this is really his best chance, and I want to see all the guys do well. He's a holding midfielder, and that's just what we need in our games sometimes, especially against a team like the Swedes.

Also, Walcott better get a run-out, or as an England fan (as an Arsenal fan I'm glad for the experience he'll get ;)) why bother taking him? We'd have been far better off with Defoe as a good deputy for the currently under-performing Owen.

I dont know whether I want Hargreaves to play well. As you say, this is his chance.

If he plays well though he'll still be on the fringes of the squad, and won't be played any more than normal. If he doesn't play well, he might be dropped...

whats the crack with the frank lampard/shearer incident all about...
I've missed that. How do you mean?

Media asked Lampard about some of the comments Shearer made about the team not playing too well.

Lampard did the usual "Well I think that's unfair but we can do better" PR speech.

Media prints "LAMPARD SAYS STFU SHEARER".

Lamps says "Err, hang on a sec. Sorry Alan, but I didn't say any of that."

Alan: "Howay, ne problem lad"

Storm in a teacup over.

There were some good points made about Hargreaves the other day (somewhere). Because he's always plied his trade abroad & because the English media don't track him like Beckham we don't really know what he's capable of so we only see 20-60mins of him now & then & he's not really a flashy player so he'll never catch the eye, Makele for Chelsea never does anything fancy (no real comparison granted) but when you appreciate exactly what he does, it's a different story. Didn't Hargreaves win player of the year for BM?:)
