World Cup Hosts 2018

Doesn't matter about the odds, IMO we don't have a cat in hell's chance. I'll be amazed if we're not bottom of the voting.

I agree with Panorama in that FIFA are corrupt to the core, but at the end of the day that program ruined what small chance we had. FIFA don't and won't like being told about how corrupt they are, no matter how true it is.

All in the "public interest" eh? The BBC should be fined for it, quite frankly.

Fined for exposing corruption  Yeah, ok.

Panorama's been and gone. Anyway, I think our presentation was rather good, very well prepared and the big names always help. If it made any difference, it can only have been a positive one. :)

Not as simple as that, is it?

It seems simple to me - you are annoyed that the Panorama program has exposed corruption in FIFA which has rankled them and soured their perceptions of the British press - and so you believe the BBC should be fined because we have less chance of hosting the World Cup as a result.

Am I correct?

I think they will have nailed it tbh, they nearly convinced me!

Will be a good thing for England to get it anyway, means we won't have to qualify ;)

Yeah but corruption is ok as long as it benefits us ;).

If we had won the bid and show the program, FIFA would no doubt have been even more annoyed. If we had lost the bid and the BBC had aired it we would have been accused of having sour grapes.

Yes.

So it's not as simple as "exposing corruption" is it?

Was listening to 15mins on the radio and catching the end, quite impressed with our bit tbh.

There really isn't many reasons we shouldn't get it.

As much as I disliked Cameron at the start of the year the guy has grown on me a little, very good speaker and handles himself very well,

On paper it's by far the best bid, sadly that means nothing when it comes to FIFA.

The one thing i think we have underplayed a lot which would have helped is the structure of our game, every bidding nation has big stadiums at the top level and will have decent facilities, what we do have that no other nation can boast is a strong base below the elite level. The championship is better supported than the majority of elite leagues in Europe baring la Liga and the Bundesliga, we should have IMO played far more on that, the fact that we have teams in our second tier that can get more than most top flight games throughout the world, we have stadiums like Hillsborough in the third tier.

We have by far and away the best league system in the world, we currently have a team in 11th in the premier league that a year ago were relegation fodder in the championship. The title may well only be decided by 4-5 teams but below that there are 20-30 clubs that really could be anywhere from 10th in the championship to 10th in the premier league, and there is no other football league in the world that can boast the strength that the PL and FL have in this country.

Because if their viewing figures aren't high enough, they become uncompetitive and lose the power to bargain when attempting to increase the TV licence.

I'm quite shocked at the number of people who thought the BBC did nothing wrong actually.

I've answered this point above. What gives them the right to scupper (or attempt to) our 2018 bid?

You mean the same TV licence which has been froze for the next few years.... Do you really think that 1 program 2 years ago will have any significant effect on future increases...

You could ask the BBC the same thing. Why screen it when they did if it doesn't matter?

Well done England bidding team especially Eddie Afekafe (Man city community project manager ) i think England will get the 2018 world cup

They have every right. Irrespective of whether they should or shouldn't have, they certainly have the right to. As for what gives them the right, the country's legal system gives them the right.
