Well I can when they're risking stuffing large amounts of public money up the wall in order to further their own ends?
At the end of the day RG, we have the Freedom of the Press. But that doesn't mean complete freedom. They're still bound by things such as printing libel - although that is not relevant here as it is assumed (and probably accurate) that what they reported is true.
But then you get a situation like this, where the BBC just "so happens" to have a Panorama program airing a few days before the decision on a bid we're attempting to win. Sure, i'm assuming things, but I would consider that the BBC strategically placed it there with little regard for the consequences to the bid itself. The bid involves a huge effort on the part of those involved and not to mention large amounts of public money when the country doesn't have a lot to be throwing around.
Why would the BBC place the episode there? Well that's clear... it's placed so as to maximise exposure and viewing figures. But said program has been the topic of debate both at government and FIFA levels for weeks, and could be seen as seriously detrimental to our bid.
I don't propose muzzling the BBC. I just question why they're allowed to damage something like this in the name of revenue generation and then hide behind the whole "it's in the public interest" - which clearly the BBC don't give a **** about.
