World Cup Hosts 2018

They will move on when the next big thing happens.

News is only news if it's newsworthy.

The anti FIFA thing gets boring quickly.

Not bitter? :p haha

Spain probably had a good bid, same goes for Japan. They didn't fit with what FIFA want, a country that haven't hosted a world cup and that they can use them to help spread the game.

This is nothing to do with England and everything to do with an organisation that takes whatever steps necessary to line the pockets of its members. You're being incredibly naive.

FIFA have been like this for yonks.

Any company that employ Jack Warner (spelling) have problems with corruption.

I'm also sure that this kind of thing happens at a lot of big companies and governing bodies and organistations.

Oh wait, none of them stopped us hosting the World Cup :p

you just dont get it do you?

The whole point of things like sport and football is to promote a fair competition, from the game through to things like WC hosting/voting.

No one cares about corruption in business, as its business, thats that... totally irrelevent to this..

people care about FIFA as its promoting a sport which is supposed to be fair and for the FANS, the many, and not for the few.

FIFA has now turned its back on those fans with these bribed WC votes.

They are bringing football into serious disrepute.

But it doesnt matter now anyway, as by the time 2022 comes round, no one will give a **** about international football, and even less of one about a WC in Catahhr.

Soccer as we call it is a bees **** away from becoming quite a lot bigger down here then it is. If we had got the World Cup then the numbers of people playing would have completely gone through the roof!
Which is why AFL and NRL were probably all a bit slow to let Football Australia use some of there Stadiums for the world cup bids

Now put you hands up if you would choose a Holiday in Qatar over Australia? :p

:p :D

Didn't see this much outrage before the churnalists came out with the corruption scandals ;)

Seems this is only such a big deal now its stopped England hosting the World Cup.

No, it's a big deal now because the vote took place this week and therefore FIFA is already in the news. Publishing these stories at another time would make no sense at all for a newspaper. It's all about maximising exposure and interest in the story.

Which is why the BBC put panorama out at this time, but that's apparently a reason we didn't get the bid :p

I wasn't commenting on the timing of the news stories, I fully expected them at this time of the bidding.

I was making the point, that FIFA have had a reputation for being corrupt for a long time, I find it funny how now it's a big deal because it's "affected" us :)

It's not only affected us though, it's all over the Australian, Spanish and American press so to claim that this is only an English concern is completely untrue.

:D

Why should it of taken this for people to do something about it?

I find it funny and aren't as bothered by it because you know your going to get this with FIFA.

I believe Russia deserved to win the first bid, I'd have voted for them. Struggling country getting such a big boost, first World Cup :)

Qatar, bit miffed but not too shocked, or certainly not as shocked as the rest of the World seems to be :(

We're not the only people complaining about it though are we, I mean even the American President has had a say.

And anyway, it always affects us, it's just this time it's a bit too glaringly obvious to sit and do nothing about it and just accept it.

Why should it take it affecting us to do something about it? We should have being doing something about this a long time ago.

The F.A. are ****ing clueless. We should be sorting that out before going after FIFA / different issue :p

I don't think Quatar is crap. I'm sure it's a lovely place. Hosting a World Cup? Hmm.

Why should it take it being this obvious for someone to do something?

FIFA have had a reputation for this for yonks! How come it's taken all this? How come it's taken it affecting us directly?

I remember the English were flying over the World having meetings and playing the odd game to try and "buy" votes, but that was okay :p / off topic slightly.

I'm not fussed if England get the bid or not, it's more about the process of selecting who gets it. I want it to be fair and go to deserving countries who will put on a good show, not the countries who have offered whatever as a backhander. It stinks.

So what exactly is it you're saying, even if what you say is 100% correct, are you saying we should just accept it and get on with it becasue that's just how it is? I really don't see the point.

It stank before this and it probably will continue to stink.

Find it funny that it's only terrible and Blatter deserves horrible things because it's affected us.

If this was such an appauling system, this would have being going on / people would be acting against FIFA for years.

The worst thing about the voting process is that Fifa have absolutely no accountability to anyone. As BBC said, if a government attempt to interfere or investigate Fifa, Fifa just kick out the national team of that country. It's absolutely despicable that they have so much power but so little accountability.

To me, the 2022 decision was far more questionable than the 2018 bid. At least all the countries we were against were reasonable opponents, holding the WC in Qatar is just a joke. Qatar's bid was deemed high risk by Fifa yet they got by far the most votes. The only reason they won is either bribery or Fifa wanting to promote football in the middle east, I can't see any other reason why they would be picked.

Voting ought to follow the IOC system. All Fifa members should get a vote, and those votes and the reasons for them should be made public.

Why didn't we do something before? Why has it taken this? We should have gotten together and done something before.

I'm all for having a better FIFA, anything that helps that is good. I just find this all very funny, it's a non issue but then it affects us and oh woe is us and it's a terrible system ! down with FIFA, but still I'd take a better F.A. first :)

Yup. True.

I can see why Russia got it and I thought they'd get it. Quatar took me by a little bit of a surprise but spreading FIFA to the middle east, well it's a big cash cow, they might as well start milking it.

A non-issue? It really is a huge issue, to more countries than just England too.

So you're saying that we shouldn't say anything about it purely because we never said anything about it before? Hardly an argument that now is it.
