World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

I'm actually holding off playing more Dying Light 2 just because of this monitor. Imagine night time!
Also going to re-watch the Alien series and other SciFi :D

Isn't the best screensaver on OLED to have it just turn off? No power usage and not draining any life from the sub-pixels.

Not sure if things have changed now but with oled, it was/is always best to ensure a variety of content was displayed so as to avoid any kind of image retention i.e. pixels are always displaying a large variety of things and not just the same kind of content it is used to every day. That and by screensaver I meant a black screen :p IIRC, After 10 minutes, my display then goes into standby mode.

You and me both! Sadly DL 2 doesn't have HDR but still QD OLED will look seriously good in SDR!

I always find the argument of "it's called ultrawide for marketing but I'm the only person smart enough to realise it's actually just a bigger monitor cut down" amusing. It's like they're so blinded by nerd rage they can't see the fact that 2560x1080 is a wider 1920x1080 and 3440x1440 is a wider 2560x1440.

I don't ever recall seeing a 3440x1935 monitor, so what would it be cut down from exactly?

Kind of gutted about this coming out soon to be honest. Like quite a few people in this thread I just bought an AW3821DW a few months ago - after posting a thread asking what are the chances of a monitor like this coming out soon and getting a pretty unanimous "not in the next few years".

Was intending to keep the Alienware for the next 5 years or so, but looks like there might be another upgrade coming shortly...

Only problem is the fact the panel is made by Scamsung, although I guess it would have a Dell warranty so I guess not a deal breaker.

Exactly.

I can happily play on a good 16.9 display too and probably could go back to one for every day usage if need be, as I do game on my 55" tv and never really have any complaints other than things looking squashed horizontally but with 21.9, both the format of the display and AR is just a lot more enjoyable for everything.

I'm sure you could still sell the AW3821DW for a decent amount.

I may have to start updating this thread again:

I don't think you'll need to keep variable content as I think these new ones just have a single blue colour emitter now? Or am I mixing it up? Need to have another look how these things work again!

Don't you have a decent TV for watching films on?

I have a 65" LG OLED,but I still like to kick back and watch stuff on the PC in ultra-wide from time to time. My PC audio setup is also higher fidelity than the surround on the TV too as most of my time is spent with music whilst editing photos etc.

Update: Totaly changed my mind - for what it's worth!
Tried some gaming tonight on my PG279Q - same vert space (fov) as this UW, as we know!
I hated the bloody supersmal fov. No way I can live with that, no matter how good it May be!

So I will Definetly go for the C2 42 incher, and be immersed!

To be the Parrot:
Damn that vertical space , same as my 27 bla bla..but.hmm, how the hell can I look at the 42 C2 after this one..LOL!
I mean it will cost as much and this will be so superior. Totaly a gamechanger!

And as Nexus said, he found the imerssion great on his 34 UW even he plays on his CX55, as I do!

Decisions guys..well I just have to try it out atleast. The specs and price is just insane!

Furry muff then, can't watch films on small screens, makes me shiver to even think about it. :p

Yeah, I have a decent 65" TV - it's not OLED, but midrange FALD, so not cheap & cheerful quality either. It's great for controller based games, but for "proper" PC games I like getting up close and personal, and the UW format is far more immersive for that.

Almost certainly, but the question is do I do that now and pick up a cheapo monitor in the meantime, or hold on till it comes out and mine has lost loads of value?:(

Sounds like Samsung were making market tactical decisions, they still got plenty mini led, LED displays to sell so they were happy to sell QD-OLED to others even.

Yields are very low also but oddly Samsung just want to get QD-OLED out there at a cheaper cost just to compete even if its Sony or Dell. It goes one step further though since Samsung Electronics and Displays are separate yet work together, since they got those LG OLEDs are a decent price they wanted the same
deal and price for the QD-OLEDs. So betrayal or rivalry? within each division inside Samsung. Good for Sony and Dell and the Consumers pockets at least!

See this gets my thinking my film genre is heavy on Syfy and Action anyhow, that QD-OLED monitor technically should be better then regular OLED due to superior viewing angles, reduced or possibly no dimming and better whites/colours.

If they had an QD-OLED 38-42" 4K Monitor non curved panel id buy that over a TV

For gaming and media as it's curved, with no backlight bleed you get the full on OLED special too especially in the dark when sat comfortably at your desk. I expect immersion to be next level really.
