World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

It's using the G-Sync Ultimate FPGA (why it only has HDMI 2.0), so almost certainly has a fan.

I just googled this and yep you're right. That's so ****** lol.
That's probably going to put me off this monitor as well, I'll wait for a non gsync ultimate version then

Is the fan noticeable?

One of the reviews I looked at mentioned that the fan is a core component of the Gsync module and is attached to it - likely meaning it's a standard part supplied by Nvidia and will be the same across all Gsync ultimate monitor.

And in that regard, they mention that the fan is always on - if the monitor is on, the fan is on and it's noise level is 34db which is about the same as a 120mm case fan at 1500rpm. My take away from that is yes it will be noticeable; May not notice it when playing audio like a game, music movie but with no audio it will be noticed

Does Dell/Alienware generally translate 1:1 on their product? If it at least no worse than 1:1 that decent price in end. Although it translates to like £958 which allowing for + VAT is £1149 so if it comes in at that I'd probably buy day 1 tbh.

My silly spec up above for £3k doesn't seem so far away now ha.

I have the PG32UQX with the G-Sync ultimate module. The fan is on the back-side, which means most sound it makes you don't hear from in front of the monitor. You'd have to have a REALLY quiet PC to hear the monitor fan. I think it's blown out of proportion. Almost any type of fan in a PC case or liquid cooled radiator is going to be louder than it. And I doubt hardly any very powerful PC's that typically run these high end gaming monitors are completely silent.

Almost what I want. Tempted still but I am really after a 38" version with something a little more ppi than is currently being shown. You are closer to monitors than TV so a 3440x1440 34"ppi is around 110. Compare that to a 4k, 24" monitor which I think is about the sweet spot for myself at 180ppi and that is my issue with these monitors, work wise anyways.

But that means I would be waiting for something like the following
  • 38" 21:9 (34.88" x 15.08")
  • 8k 7680x3320 (220ppi) - although a 6k 175ppi minimum would work too, just not really marketing for 6k out there.
  • 240Hz
  • QD-OLED
  • Freesync Premium Pro
  • 450Nits full screen,1000Nit 10% 1500Nit 3%
  • DP 1.4 & HDMI 2.1
  • 4 USB-C connections
  • 1500r curve

so looks like I will be waiting a long time (2-3 year probably) but if someone dropped that at around the £3k mark I would snap it up tbh.

2-3 years? LMAO. I have been waiting 7 years for a 1000Nit 4k 32" 120Hz+ HDR screen to arrive. At the current pace of development to market I think you will be looking more like 7-10 years for what you are after.

Haha totally called them out there, I've noticed this a lot as well though, posting to cause and argument or say something, rather than just not bothering.

IIRC the very first 4K TV didn't come out until 2012.

No but it feels like it. I have been gaming on albeit low(ish) input lag 60hz 4k monitors for over 7 years now.

Thanks for the feedback and this doesn’t sound so bad if the fan is like the one you have on your monitor.

Yeah I'm not too concerned about the fan either tbh, as said, not like you're going to hear it over current pc let alone when gaming etc.

Only concern is something else to fail but this is dell/alienware so their CS is pretty much the best you're going to get.

I have a fan monitor (ASUS PG27UQ) and it is not audible when the pc is on. Only notice it when I switch everything off until the fan stops once the monitor is off.

I mean that's what the guys buying the £800 LG 27GN950 thought, but they are having issues with fans. The difference being LG are **** with aftercare.

Hopefully reviews are out before the pre-orders go live. Unless price is much higher for us or/and there are severe issues, I'm pretty sure I'll be going for this.

You've been waiting for something longer than it has existed? In that HDR with HDMI was April 2015 and with DP1.4 was March 2016. But yeah, things being asked and the tech now though is very much driving to that. In that it is all an increase in values. What you wanted in combined tech in 2015 didn't even exist which is very different to evolution of combined tech.

Is it a short time to get a total, maybe but positivity somewhere in the PC market would be good.

Price certainly seems to have shocked everyone. IIRC, even in pcmonitors.info and tftcentral articles on this, they also said don't be expecting this to be cheap!

£1300 isn't exactly cheap though for a monitor! On a scaled down perspective, the larger TVs etc are still a few grand so relative to that, it seems priced about right. I guess they are not adding a "new tech markup" like we normally would see here, that and how it's cheaper to produce QD-OLED panels due to the new manufacture process I guess.
