World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

web chatted to dell yesterday to ask for a discount in view of the delay. got a boiler plate answerer re the delay and so had to ask again re a discount and got a flat no. feel like I'm the only person in the world to have payed the 1099 asking price. Still i want to upgrade from my acer xr34ck (which i like and have been happy with) and I want to finally have blacks that are black and not grey to lighter grey in the corners.

OK. On further inspection, although the delivery date has not moved from 26th April, the shipping date is now the 6th April. Here is hoping I therefore get the monitor towards the start of the month, and not the end :)

Anyone got a good guide/advice for settings?

Also, any quick toggles to turn hdr on/off i.e. off for desktop usage and then for gaming usage, on?

EDIT:

To answer my last question:

win + alt + b

to turn it on/off

I'm starting to see a pattern of shipping dates batched by order time, not confirmed time, which is promising. On the ultrawide reddit thread a survey form to fill out is there too, will be interesting to see the results of that.
If that's the actual case, then I'm happy to do nothing and wait. I just can't see anything else in this form factor even approach this monitor for value and quality any time soon.

Just ask them to honour the price on your reorder and they should do that just fine.

After lots of back and forth they have refused, best they can do is 10% off and a mid-august delivery date. The place in the queue was lost as an agent at their end accidentally cancelled my order and they have no way of re-instating it.

Just wow.

:/

One sad bunny here. Now hoping for a 32" 4k Qd-oled display at a sensible price to pop up before august.... lol!

That sucks. With a wait like that the 42c2 with discounts approaching black Friday might be the best bet and probably much more refined as an oled offering.

Maybe Samsung will have a 34 inch ultrawide using the panel too. They usually have 10-20% codes too.

Sorry to hear that. Samsung might have their version out before then?

Just checked my account. After the first "delay" notification, my order was estimated to be shipped on 22/4 and delivered by 28/4. It's still saying the 28th for delivery, but shipping is down as the 6th now. I also had a look at the times for my purchase - order received at 08:11, but not confirmed until 17:14 (paid by Visa Debit). So looks like @Alienwhere could be right, and they're now sorting by time of order.

....and that kids, is why you have accidental damage cover on your home insurance!

At least it's a 38" and not the QD-OLED
Have you ever claimed on accidental damage for your home insurance? If so how often and what kind of impact does it have on you premium the next year or year after etc?

So, how does it compare to your OLED TV? Better, worse? Can you see the pixels? Lol

I am all excited about it, yet a apart of me think I may be underwhelmed by the potato resolution and end up with a 42” C2.

Give us as much info as you can, are you blown away, will you be keeping it for sure long term or looking for something else?

So used it a bit more, quick thoughts:

LG e7 in technicolour preset (most accurate out of the box preset) and dell mon. just in default standard and HDR400 for HDR content since I'm not sure on settings yet till hdtvtest or tftcentral get their hands on it.

- no doubt dell is superior for uniformity and banding or rather lack of banding on 5-10% grey slides
- colours overall are better than the lg e7
- blacks/shadow detail is handled better than my e7
- sharpness/clarity, I do think if you're a fan of 4k and all about pixels, you might find this a bit lacking but then it kind of comes down to a 21.9 vs 4k/ar thing really (of course could wait for a higher res. 21.9 at some point....)
- text fringing is very much a non issue imo, can notice it if you look for it but you do have to be pixel peeping
- anti glare finish is great

And as we all know, it's got all the other usual advantages of oled i.e. superior motion, viewing angles etc.

As it, £750-850 and a "usable" monitor size, nothing can touch this imo so can see it staying for a long time, next upgrade for me will probably be 38" 21.9 but not in any rush now.

Also, this just shows how much contrast ratio and proper blacks makes to dark areas, don't have a comparison pic, maybe someone else can take one on their lcd though. Essentially on my ips, that back container part was completely black, no detail at all and just that area in general, I always had to turn the flashlight on to see where I was going (this is SDR mode too as DL 2 doesn't support hdr)

Have sent a service ticket now instead, annoying how character limit is 500 as can't add all the detail.....

@srekal34 any luck on the warranty front yet?

I have for my oled wallpaper TV that originally cost me 7k.

It was a 2500 claim after excess and increased my contents by almost double from 100 to 200.

Not an accidental damage claim but when we claimed for very big smashed bay window double glazed unit it put our premium up by £1 for the year :p

I’ve been using mine on mobo/rts preset. Seems more inline with what I was getting with my neo g9.

Interesting, I also have my 38" on "MOBA/RTS" as it seems to give a much more neutral colour vs the "standard" preset which is extremely cold/unsaturated. I really need to get a calibrator at some point, as this is purely down to my preference (which I guess in the end is what matters more...)
