World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

After some extensive use now I have found the monitor has quite a few marks on the monitor which I don't think are dead pixels but they look as if there is dirt on the screen which a microfibre cloth can't get rid of. Has anyone noticed this or had the same problem? Its not noticeable on most games but in darkly lit games or content then its noticeable which is not great. I took a photo which it was quite hard to record but the image does not look nearly as bad in person but you get the idea of what the problem is.

Ouch lol

"unless you have your lights off, the black levels are no better than a regular IPS LCD monitor, this coating is what I'd describe as taking the worst of gloss and worst of matte and somehow combining them and this defeats the purpose of an OLED and that's a problem."

he carries on and says "this doesn't mean the QD-OLED is useless in daytime viewing, but my LG CX 48 inch in my office has significantly better black level performance"

Complete trash for many reasons. And unless you have bright light shining directly on the screen then any monitor is going to have poor black levels.

He also doesn't seem to understand the technology at all. It's a front emissive display and the QD dots start to glow a bit when light shines onto them. It's not the coating causing the issue. it's just a property of QD-OLED.

^^

Pretty much. Seems display tech. is not quite HU strong point.

I had/have both a LG E7 OLED and the AW and have posted photos showing plenty of cases where black is black  The only time, black will never be quite the inky black is with light source shining directly on to the display. To say "no better than a regular IPS LCD" is laughable, I'm back on my IPS 34" in the same conditions and lighting etc., even during full bright lighting, you can tell the blacks are nowhere as good, not to mention, look at all that lovely diffusion, which means you have to play in a mostly dark room:

Would post a photo of my LG e7 but then you would just see me and my room being reflected :p

PS.

The difference in colours is probably down to the exposure setting and also, iirc, the AW one was before I changed any calibration settings or the gamma, not to mention, lighting of the room isn't the "exact" same

Grim has been waiting to find a video to say something like that anyway. He wants to buy the Samsung G8 monitor that uses VA panels you see

Eww, why would anyone want to torture themselves with VA smearing anymore?

This QD-OLED has spoiled me now with it's superior response times and i can no longer go back to anything lesser than it. :p

Sadly it seems to be a common theme on this forum lately. People not owning said product and taking anything they can find to back up their narrative  :o

I just say it as I see which could be right or wrong. Like even though I decided I am going to keep this monitor as my long term one, I did not hide the fact that I can see the drop in resolution. Higher resolution/PPI is simply better imo. But this monitor has so many damn pro’s and only a few cons. For under £800 I am very happy with it :D

Oh and I have control of my rooms lighting and it tends to usually be dark anyway, so no issues with the blacks for the most part. I would have preferred glossy still though.

So, if normal outdoor light is coming in from a window 90 degrees to you/the monitor, not sun rays shining directly into the room then the black levels won't really change?

Lol. Let us know how that turns out. I just shot of an email asking for my partial refund which they had promised but kindly asked for some more as a few here managed to get a few percent extra. I doubt anything will come of it, but worth a try.

Can’t complain for £787 for the best gaming monitor on the market and at least I got it somewhat early and not having to wait ages like some here will be. Might be a further £50+ cheaper if my cashback pays out :D
How did you get it so cheap?

Voucher codes dude. If you search the thread or have been following it most people got it this way. The only extra bit I got is by complaining they delayed my dispatch. Some people got it for under £700… Like using the Amex £100 cashback for example which I did not.

Wow, I'll do some trawling tonight through the thread. Thank you good sir!
If your looking for discount codes to use on this monitor then don't bother. Dell have disabled them from being used. The only way you get it for around that price is if you purchased it already.

I think someone said that Dell acknowledge that discount codes very never supposed to have been able to be used when purchasing this monitor.

Yeah it is pathetic and embarrassing tbh.

At least grim doesn't have a grudge like some others in the gpu sub forum

Nope, the blacks will only look slightly "off" when a light source is directly hitting/pointing at the screen.

I think @mrk did a good video/photo showing it.

It is still worth contacting Dell via the online chat to ask for a 'best price' - you will almost always get a better deal than the listed price.
