World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

If you want HDR in your non hdr games, use SpecialK and not 'auto hdr.' SK is really well done and actively developed. The biggest drawback is that as of now, the recording tools I've tested so far, shadowplay/xbox dvr/obs are not able to capture the HDR metadata when using SK. The capture software hooks the render pipeline before the SK injection takes place and for the time being, that can't be fixed.

Outside of that limitation, it works great: https://wiki.special-k.info/

Interesting. Never heard of that. Too busy playing actual HDR games at the moment, but will definitely give that a try. I mean as I recall people were saying Auto HDR did a good job, but I never did comparisons as been too busy enjoying HDR games.

So far completed Shadow of a Tomb Raider and Halo Infinite. Now onto Guardians of the Galaxy. Resident Evil Village will be next :D

@TNA nice! i'm splitting gaming time between Halo: Infinite and GotG myself. Both are stunning with HDR.

Was considering doing the same. Started with GotG, but that was a bit slow to begin with and I got hooked on Halo after starting that. Was fun going around the map liberating all the outposts and saving troops, finding cores etc. I only found enough cores to max out the grapple hook, shield and thruster though, the other two seemed a bit crap.

Just checked for a delivery date and it's stating September, does that normally get brought forwards?
Don't think anyone really knows, not even Dell themselves.

There's not really been any consistency to their shipments so far, just small batches going out here and there. In the US they've apparently not had a batch go out since the day it launched. I think in terms of UK pre-orders they're up to people who ordered at 8:30 am on the morning of launch. So still a long way to clear through the backlog. Just depends on whether they've managed to ramp up production with the panels allegedly having a higher yield rate now.

So a few quirks with this monitor.

1) My PC is set to turn the monitor off after 5 mins of inactivity.

Sometimes I'll come back and the monitor will be in standby mode, and wakes up with the PC, other times it's off completely and needs to be physically switched on with the power button - This also disables the USB ports.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it though - One time I left the PC on overnight downloading and the monitor woke from standby, other times I go for a dog walk for an hour and the monitor is off when I come back. Any thoughts?

2) Twice i've been using it now (once when gaming) and the message has appeared about pixel refreshing. Obviously I don't want this whilst I am in the middle of a game. Any suggestions?

3) The monitor seems to default the HDR Black 400, and I have to keep changing it to Peak 1000. Any way to keep it in Peak 1000 mode?

I had that happen to me so I turned off the standby mode (or maybe set it to an hour I think) and just set a screensaver to take its place now.

The pop up message only ever inconvenienced me once like you say, I put don’t ask me again and it tend to just do it when I turn off the monitor now.

OK thanks, a bit of a wait then. I'll go through this thread and see about any discounts...

1) As far as I understand if it does a pixel refresh it seems to just straight up turn the monitor off instead of putting it back into stand by, not sure why.
2) I told it to not tell me any more and I've not had that message show since the second time the prompt happened. Just does it when I turn the monitor off now, which is basically the way the LG TV's system works too, just does it when you've switched the monitor off after 4+ hours of cumulative usage since the last refresh.
3) Pretty sure it's just a display glitch, as if you change the setting back to 1000 it doesn't cause the monitor to flicker black a second while changing the mode like it normally does when you change that setting. Think someone even tested it to make sure, but can't remember where I read that.

Think the codes don't work any more but if you have got a student code/blue light code or whatever that isn't working on the monitor you could try contacting support. Apparently people have had some luck with that, might take going through a few different reps though as it seems to be luck of the draw on if a rep will help you get the discount.

Not had my HDR switch from 1000 to 400 mode.

As for the screen being off when you come back, might be the pixel refresher i.e. after it's finished, the monitor switches off.
