World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

Looks like mid September when you visit their site.

I ordered this monitor from Dell a month ago and i was given a delivery date of October 25, however after reading the last post i looked again at the Dell website for this product and it states September 15 delivery for my postcode.

i know it says "The estimated delivery date may change depending on your payment method.", but what does this mean exactly? I paid using my bank card.

October is a long way from September so would like this monitor asap as i'm tempted to cancel and order the LG 42 Oled instead.

I think it is if you used things like PayPal credit or are financing it that they would change the delivery. As surely the financing starts as soon as you do it. It won’t wait till you have the monitor.

I cancelled my order which was due on the 19th of October. 1) You can’t manually update the firmware and have to send it back if you want it updating. 2) They apparently have no spares or replacements. I have seen a number of posts where people needed to RMA the monitor and they initially got told they would receive a replacement to then be told there are none so they must either choose a different model or get a refund. 3) I have decided to switch from 1440p to 4K so the AW will not fit my goal.

Now I have to just decide between the LG C2 42” or the Samsung Neo G7.

I get what you're saying, but i paid the total sum out right with my bank card. If i have to be patient, i will, however the thought i could get this monitor over a month earlier than expected makes me want to investigate further. Unfortunately the customer service pages on Dell.com are a bit of a nightmare to navigate so i can speak with them directly.

When I paid with my bank card it was pending for 4 days and then disappeared as Dell don’t actually take the money till they send you the monitor. So you will be waiting till the delivery date.

Edit : Just checked for my post code and it says 15th of September. Yet my order was definitely 19th of October when I ordered on the 13th of June. So unless they have upped production I am confused as to why an earlier order would arrive later.

Someone on the Monitors discord group just showed his email from Dell saying his AW3423DW order is delayed till September 6th. So again that is confusing, if they have upped production then why the delay. Or they have done a huge bulk order. It all depends on where you order it from. Australia / New Zealand seem to get it quicker followed by the US next. The biggest delays seems to be UK/ EU.

HDR400 is brighter when there's more white area on screen in HDR content. I can't remember the % of screen size before it gets noticeable but the 1000 nits is a very small area but when that area gets larger, the 1000nits drops. Makes sense. HDR400 is more natural and stays more accurate for a larger area. I haven't used 1000 for ages now after I saw that.
Also 400 nits should be lot less stressfull for pixels to produce than 1000 nits.
And should be certainly more than bright enough, if having any control over room's illumination level.

What is probably happening is an illusion to the human eye - show a human something that's 1000 nits for 10 seconds, then dim it to 400 nits for 10 seconds, then turn the screen off for 10 seconds and turn it back on at 300 nits and ask them if 300 is darker or brighter than 400 - everyone wil say 300nits was brighter because it's an illusion of how humans perceive light
Human vision measures contrast/relative brightness, not absolute brightness.

I might guess that they have people cancel which could change the volume available. Also interested if they refurb some of the RMA/returns and put them back into the circulation pot?

Could be. There was around 5 of use that posted up that we cancelled our orders. At least are from the UK. I never asked the other 3.

I think a lot of people are put off by the wait time.

I think my HDR is broken. So just to check if its just me. Go to this video and tell me what is the most highest readable number on your AW. Do one for SDR, then switch to HDR 400 and then switch to HDR 1000. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlLJMeEfSmA&t=21s

For reference mine is
SDR = 736 nits and I can barely make out the other numbers.
HDR 400 true black = 10000 nits
HDR peak 1000 = 10000 nits

When I first got the monitor I tested this video and got vastly different numbers and HDR appear much brighter and more contrast, but now both the HDR 400 and HDR 10000 are the same numbers and contrast feels like SDR which tells me something is wrong.

Just tested this on my iPhone 13 pro max. It's just over 1300 nits which matches official HDR spec for the phone so I think the video is working fine.

possibly windows or your web browser is doing some funny tone mapping or something. I don't think your monitor is broken and now suddenly it's capable of displaying 10,000nits lmao it would probably explode. So it's likely some funny software problem on the PC or some funny tone mapping setting in the monitor menu - so a more accurate measurement for you would be to place a light meter against the screen - I have an app on my phone called light meter that does this, it's not going to be particularly accurate using a phone camera as a light meter but may give some idea

858 is JUST about readable in SDR.
Then.. yeah.. I can see all the numbers from 0.5 to 10,000 with HDR on. It's probably windows doing something funky with the video tbh... windows is like that.

I did some more testing

Checked on my lg OLED TV using YouTube app and using PC on multiple browsers in sdr and hdr and I can confirm it doesn't work.

The only time I can get an accurate number is watching the video using my phone, no matter what setting I use in windows the results are garbage - I even tested an old sdr only monitor on it or that I know for a fact can't do over 300nits but the video says it's 750 lol. Using the in built YouTube app on the TV didn't work either, it showed the screen is 10,000 nits which is ridiculous I know it can't do over 850

Looks like the test is broken, it wasn't broken previously a few weeks ago so no idea what is going on with youtube. Your phone's behaviour in showing HDR on that video is what is meant to happen on the monitor. Also it seems my HDR might not be broken after all. I did another test using Sea of thieves HDR calibration settings. In Sea of Thieves, I'm able to get the slider to 750 max brightness in HDR 400 mode, and 1780 max brightness in HDR 1000 mode.

i have an estimated shipping date of beginning of August (put the order in mid March damn), when does Deall usually change the status to Production? as mine is still sitting on Confirmed. Anyone else the same

Same here, ordered 23/03 with an estimated 27/07 dispatch. Not moved to production yet. It seems from other feedback that in the UK the order moves into production a day or two before dispatch. Fingers crossed there is no delay.

Interestingly, the estimated delivery dates on the website have gone from mid-November to mid-September now, for those still thinking about ordering. Sadly, Dell have still failed to even pick my broken one up for a refund even though they were meant to Friday last week.
